AFS-USA is part of a worldwide network of AFS partner organizations that work together to advance global education and foster meaningful connections across cultures. As the network’s largest partner, AFS-USA works to increase the global competency of U.S. citizens by providing a variety of international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities. We are proud of our Staff of approximately 200 dedicated individuals, working from our national office in New York City as well as home offices across the county, who collaborate with our more than 4,000 AFS-USA Volunteers to deliver high quality programs and global education resources. These include: immersion based study abroad experiences in over 40 countries worldwide; opportunities to host foreign AFS exchange students; and global learning workshops and curricula for educator, schools and businesses.
Within AFS-USA, the Sponsored Programs Department works with the Department of State and other grantees on several public diplomacy initiatives that are designed to promote peace and understanding between the United States and the exchange countries. The seasonal staff person will assist Outbound Sponsored Programs staff with marketing/outreach, application, selection, and pre-departure preparation for the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) program, and other programs as assigned.
As the CBYX Outreach and Application Seasonal, you will assist program staff with researching, proposing, composing, and coordinating marketing/outreach efforts, including with third-party organizations, schools, other departments at AFS-USA, AFS-USA volunteers, and CBYX and other Sponsored Programs Department alumni, as well as social media content generation. Application adviser responsibilities will vary and may include assisting students and their families with inquiries regarding their scholarship application and participation, database maintenance, supporting webinars, training and guiding local volunteers and alumni with selection processes, and collaborating closely with other departments to provide program notifications and updates.
This position will require outreach and advising representing the program and, as such, it is critical that you have strong communication and customer service skills, as well as first-hand experience with international education, preferably youth exchange.
Other duties as assigned within the Sponsored Programs Department.
DURATION & HOURLY RATE:
The seasonal will work for 35 hours per week from the AFS-USA office in New York City, beginning in mid-September 2018 and continuing for approximately six months, with a break during the winter holiday season. Hours per week or duration of position may decrease based on availability of work. You must be available for the entire duration of the position. The hourly rate for this position is $15.
- Be articulate, clear, and precise when speaking and writing
- Have email and phone experience, and have provided excellent customer service
- Have studied abroad or have international work/travel experience, preferably as a youth exchange participant
- Have organizational and computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Be available to work Monday – Friday, 9AM – 6PM
- Listen and speak via telephone; type and view a computer display
