Background

The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) was founded in 1907 to help attorneys general fulfill the responsibilities of their office and to assist in the delivery of high-quality legal services to the states and territorial jurisdictions. 

NAAG’s Communications Office coordinates media-related and public information activities for the Association, oversees publication of NAAG materials, and has oversight for NAAG’s website and social media content. Serving the members’ public information officers, the Communications Office also coordinates the Public Information Officer (PIO) Seminar, assists in materials production for national distribution, coordinates national press outreach, and provides communications consultation to AG offices and NAAG staff.

Position

The communications coordinator supports the work of the NAAG chief communication officer (CCO) and the NAAG Communications Office. She/he will assist with emerging, pressing issues and provide general support to the CCO and other executive staff. The communications coordinator must possess strong organizational skills and pay close attention to detail with the ability to multi-task, work under deadline pressure, and adapt quickly to changing work priorities. Excellent computer skills, strong written and verbal communications skills, and a personable demeanor with an emphasis on tact and diplomacy are essential. Overtime and some travel may be required. Currently travel has been suspended due to limitations imposed by COVID-19. 

Responsibilities

The communications coordinator’s responsibilities include:

Email Marketing

  • Coordinate, design, and disseminate all email marketing, announcements, and newsletters, using NAAG’s email marketing platform (Informz).
  • Manage Informz data and integrations with NAAG’s AMS, including subscriber lists, and monitor the email calendar.

Social media

  • Manage NAAG’s social media, including Twitter, Facebook page, and LinkedIn.
  • Develop social media graphics, animations, and video for NAAG campaigns, and templates to share with Public Information Officers (PIOs)/Communications Directors in state and territory AG offices

Media Relations

  • Assist with handling media requests and writing media materials and fulfill publication/information requests from AG staff and general public.
  • Monitor social media and news sources for news and topics relevant to NAAG’s work and disseminate to appropriate NAAG staff and AG offices.
  • Create and update media lists.

Communications Support

  • Assist the CCO, Communications Manager, and Director, Design, Production and New Media in writing, designing, copying, and distributing NAAG marketing and other materials (meeting agendas, Association publications, directories, etc.), and updating content for NAAG website.
  • Provide support to the PIOs, including coordinating webinars and other meetings (PIO Seminar), disseminating resources, and managing community platforms (such as SharePoint).
  • Provide support for NAAG meetings, including taking photographs, and creating videos, speaker slides, and PowerPoints.
  • Assist with research projects, including gathering data, configuring surveys, etc.
  • General administrative support duties, including responding to requests, database management and word processing.
  • Other tasks as assigned, based on the needs of the Association.
