Led by Music Director Maestra Mei-Ann Chen since 2011, today the award-winning 21st century orchestra is a leader at the forefront of progressive change in the arts, redefining the orchestra experience for today’s and future generations.


THE OPPORTUNITY

Chicago Sinfonietta is seeking to fill this critical position on its team to further the organization's work championing equity, diversity, and inclusion by creating community through bold symphonic experiences. The Director of Development is responsible for building, executing, and sustaining a robust strategic development plan that enables Chicago Sinfonietta to achieve its philanthropic goals. The Director of Development is responsible for developing and advancing relationships from familiar and new individuals that enable Chicago Sinfonietta to achieve its annual revenue and long-term goals. The primary duties involve the management, planning, and execution of an annual fund, individual donor stewardship, and the management of Chicago Sinfonietta’s special events. This senior position is charged with assisting the department in guiding the organization toward realizing its mission, vision, and values. 


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

❏ Serving as a member of the senior leadership team, assisting the CEO in setting institutional policy, procedures, and long-term strategic planning. Attend meetings of the Board of Directors and its committees as assigned. Represent the Chicago Sinfonietta in the community and industry. 

❏ Collaborate and closely work with the Senior Director of Philanthropy on department goals, strategy, and execution.

❏ Serve as the development staff lead and staff liaison in the coordination of the Annual Ball and additional annual fundraising events of CS ancillary groups.

❏ Plan, manage, and implement all phases of the Annual Fund campaign; oversee the solicitation and acknowledgment process, maintenance of records, and establishment and disclosure within IRS guidelines of donor benefits; monitor progress and make adjustments as needed.

❏ Cultivate and manage a portfolio of qualified individual donors and prospects through a robust calendar of cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship activities. 

❏ Manage specific donor portfolios through a robust calendar of research, identification, networking, cultivation, solicitation, proposals, reports, and stewardship activities.

❏ Work with development staff and Chief Executive Officer in growing the major gift pipeline and identify planned giving prospects.

❏ Provide reports and tools to allow the necessary individuals and committees to actively participate in and track progress of all campaigns in relation to goals. 

❏ Manage the Development team in creation of annual campaigns, both electronic and direct mail.

❏ Manage all operations and maintenance of the CRM database in collaboration with Development staff.

❏ Work with volunteers to plan all special fund-raising events and benefits; participate in establishing the budget and oversee the execution of each event.

❏ Cultivate and solicit volunteer opportunities related to development activities 

❏ In collaboration with the CEO, formulate short and long-term goals specific to fundraising efforts of the organization.

❏ In collaboration with the CEO, develop actionable strategies for meeting and exceeding goals through gifts, donations, and fundraising events.

❏ In collaboration with the CS marketing and communications lead, coordinate all event collateral, messaging and creative elements with each event.

❏ Plan for appropriate stewardship of donor segments to help tailor fundraising appeals and follow up engagement. 

❏ Work at and/or attend concerts of the orchestra, other fundraising and special events, organizational meetings and retreats as an ambassador of the organization. 

❏ Serve as Lead manager in the input of data entry through CRM Database(s) 

❏ Working with the marketing and box office team, ensure consistent customer-focused service and benefit fulfillment at every touch point. Proof materials to ensure that donor recognition and membership information is accurate in program books, social media, and the website.

❏ Organize staff and volunteers to carry out all fundraising campaigns and events; evaluate effectiveness of each campaign.

❏ Provide periodic progress reports on all campaigns; prepare listings and financial statements as needed by the Board and staff.

❏ Support Board and staff efforts to solicit in-kind contributions.

❏ Attend other civic and cultural events in the community; represent the Chicago Sinfonietta by speaking at public events as requested.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS

❏ Familiarity with classical music, EDI, music education, and the entertainment industry preferred. 

❏ Availability to work nights and weekends and overtime as required.

❏ High level of reliability, flexibility, and maturity.

❏ Ability to establish credibility with a variety of individuals at all levels.

❏ Interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse personalities.

❏ Ability to organize effectively and work independently.

❏ Ability to deal discreetly with artists, staff, and sensitive information is essential.

❏ Ability to deal effectively with a large amount of detail.

❏ Track record of meeting and exceeding revenue goals

❏ Experience working directly with donors/customers

❏ Demonstrated collaborative skills with all levels of staff, prospects, volunteers and donors

❏ Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills

❏ Ability to initiate and follow-through on opportunities to engage with volunteers and donors

❏ Ability to work flexible hours for various fundraising events
