JOB ANNOUNCEMENT  

 

Policy Associate 

Full-Time 

Start Date: March 2020 

Salary: $80,000-$110,000 

 

Summary 

The California Community Choice Association (CalCCA) is a non-profit trade association representing Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs). Reporting to the Director of Operations and Membership, the Policy Associate position will work in direct support of CalCCA’s expanding Policy department and other leadership and staff as needed. This position assumes a high level of responsibility to provide critical administrative support to the overall success of the policy team and the association.  

 

Essential Duties (Illustrative Only - As Assigned)  

 

Policy Administration 

  • Proofread, format, and file submissions by CalCCA at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), California Energy Commission (CEC), California Air Resources Board (CARB), and the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) 
  • Develop and maintain extensive internal documentation and record keeping systems for policy matters 
  • Review and summarize CPUC/CEC activities daily, integrating new items from CPUC daily calendar, case service and agency websites 
  • Develop and maintain weekly case management summaries in coordination with case managers 
  • Develop and maintain project management tools 
  • Maintain calendar of meetings, workshops, and due dates for policy matters 
  • Administer and coordinate meetings with a variety of high-level decision-makers and stakeholders including, but not limited, to CPUC Commissioners and advisors and Energy Division Management 
  • Provide support during stakeholder engagement meetings as needed 
  • Support internal meetings with CalCCA membership engaged on policy matters 
  • Manage and coordinate calendars and meetings for internal staff and CalCCA committees 
  • Assist with the development of presentation materials 
  • Other policy administration duties as assigned 

General Operations Administration 

  • Once developed, act as office manager for a small satellite office in San Francisco. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining a daily presence, receiving and processing mail, maintaining and operating office equipment, on-site meeting set-up/clean-up, greeting guests upon arrival, and ordering office supplies  
  • Operate and manage a variety of IT systems including RingCentral, Office 365 SharePoint, and others as developed 
  • Provide back-up and redundancy for Administrative Coordinator position as needed 
  • Other general administrative duties as assigned 

 

Qualifications 

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty with excellence. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required and desired. 

 

Minimum Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree  
  • 5 years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience in the field of administrative support, ideally for a policy or legal team 
  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and project management software 
  • Experience with the CPUC Rules of Practice and Procedure 

 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Paralegal certification (can be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree and 2 additional years of experience) 
  • Experience working in Microsoft Office 365 Sharepoint 
  • Demonstrated experience in complex project management  
  • Extensive experience in proofreading and formatting 
  • Familiarity with Community Choice Aggregators and the CPUC, CEC, CARB, and CAISO processes 

 

Knowledge of:  

  • Community Choice Aggregation and the California electric utility market  
  • The purpose, organization, and operations of CCAs and trade associations  
  • California electric utility regulatory issues and regulatory practices and procedures at the California Public Utilities Commission and other regulatory agencies

  • Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including decision-makers, staff of decision-makers, non-profit and advocacy organizations, community organizations, CalCCA members, and others 
  • Communicate well both verbally and in written form  
  • Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships  
  • Lead efforts with passion, idealism, integrity, and a positive attitude 
  • Represent CalCCA in a professional way to internal and external stakeholders  

 

Compensation, Benefits, and Location 

This is a full-time position. Compensation for this position will range from $80,000-$110,000 depending on demonstrated knowledge and experience specific to the role. A benefits stipend will be provided on a monthly basis to be applied to health, dental, and 401K contributions. A package of complimentary benefits including life insurance, long-term disability, and chiropractic/acupuncture services is currently under consideration. The successful candidate for this position will work remotely until permanent office space is developed in the Bay Area for CalCCA’s policy team. The employee will be given work-from-home and flexible options once performance of duties has been established.
