Statement of Job Purpose:  The 1199NE Training & Upgrading Fund, a labor/management training Fund for healthcare workers, has recently been awarded a grant by the RI Department of Labor and Training to support the enrollment, recruitment, and training of Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) through RI’s LTSS Independent Provider program. The Fund is seeking to hire part-time Training Facilitators for its PCA Orientation and Training Program. All Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) whose wages are paid through the LTSS IP program, are required to attend an orientation before they begin work, COVID-19 Training (optional), and advanced training if they wish to be included on the EOHHS PCA Registry.

The PCA program is designed to help people with long-term disabilities and the elderly to live independently. PCAs help people with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, exercising, taking medications, and moving about inside the home. 

Training locations: Until further notice, all orientations and most trainings will be hosted virtually. (In-person orientations and training will resume at locations throughout Rhode Island when it is determined safe to do so.)

Schedule: 4-hour orientations, 5-hour COVID-19 trainings, and 13-hour Adult Daily Living training will be held at a variety of times (days, evenings, weekends). When applying please include your preferred availability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in train-the-trainer sessions to become familiar with orientation and training content, materials, and approach
  • Conduct orientation and training sessions for PCAs with diverse backgrounds and experience levels using Zoom, PowerPoint, Instructor Guide and Student Materials
  • Utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students
  • Assess PCAs successful completion of the orientations
  • Keep attendance records and submit attendance sheets after each session
  • Participate in periodic staff meetings
  • Maintain communication with PCA Recruitment and Training Coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years training or teaching experience, preferably in health care and/or adult education settings
  • Familiarity with disability issues, health care, unions, and workforce development a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of learner centered teaching approaches 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Ability to work some of the following: mornings, afternoons, evenings and some weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

·      Experience working with individuals with disabilities; knowledge of RI’s Personal Choice program, Long-Term Support Service Medicaid population, a plus

·      Experience using online meeting tools (Zoom, MS Teams, Google) to deliver trainings; comfortable hosting information sessions and trainings in-person or virtually
