Since 1984, Lawyers For Children has provided free legal and social work services to New York City children in crisis, including children suffering abuse & neglect, children in foster care and children in high-conflict custody cases. Lawyers For Children seeks an experienced Human Resources Director to ensure that all HR operations are carried out smoothly and effectively. The HR Director will be responsible for overseeing, implementing, reviewing and, where necessary, developing strategies and providing sound advice to senior management on all related HR topics.

The HR Director must be an experienced professional with deep knowledge of all matters concerning HR operations, and should be able to manage those operations and work effectively with both leadership and line staff, while also possessing a strong strategic mindset.

The goal is to ensure that all HR needs of the organization are being met and are aligned with programmatic and financial objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, implement, evaluate and, where necessary, develop organizational plans for a variety of HR matters, including compensation, benefits, health and safety, etc.
  • Evaluate, oversee and develop enhanced strategies for performance evaluation, staffing, training and development, etc.
  • Oversee all HR initiatives and systems, including web-based PTO and related tracking issues.
  • Collaborate with LFC’s Directors of Administration, Finance, and Development on the integration of HR strategy and practices in alignment with organizational operations
  • Serve as the point of contact for employment relations and talent management
  • Monitor adherence to internal policies and legal standards
  • Work in conjunction with supervisory staff and Executive Team to design and implement disciplinary action when required
  • Anticipate and work to resolve HR-related litigation risks in conjunction with the General Counsel
  • Report to senior management by analyzing data and using HR metrics

Requirements

  • Proven experience as HR Manager or comparable HR department professional
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Thorough knowledge of human resource management principles and best practices
  • Business acumen partnered with attention to the human element and positive, supportive office culture
  • Knowledge of data analysis and reporting
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Diligent and firm with high ethical standards
  • Knowledge of employment legislation and regulations
  • Undergraduate degree in human resources, business administration or relevant field; MSc/MA in human resources will be a plus
