Climate Justice Organizer Job Description:

PL is seeking a full-time Climate Justice Organizer (CJO), who will be responsible for Environmental Justice campaigns that build long-term power and achieve short-term victories. They will start by building a powerful base of Latinx grassroots leaders throughout Georgia. They will provide strategic leadership in the development of an organizational base: building plans, recruiting members and volunteers, and mentoring leaders in support of the campaign. The CGO will recruit, train, and support members in taking on leadership roles in the organization. The CGO will take a lead role in planning, developing, and carrying out organizing strategy, as well as engaging in creating innovative partnerships with individuals, organizations, elected officials, media, and others. The CJO must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and be able to multitask effectively. This position requires flexible hours with availability most needed in the evenings and on many weekends. The CGO will work primarily in Metro Atlanta counties such as Cobb, Clayton, Dekalb, Fulton & Gwinnett. The CJO will be working with a primarily Spanish-speaking Latinx community, Spanish language proficiency is necessary in order to communicate with the community.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create and maintain innovative partnerships with individuals, organizations, elected officials, media, and others.
  • Research on issues assigned
  • Prepare and submit reports of their job activities as directed by the State Director and/or Organizing Coordinator
  • Coordinate volunteer grassroots advocacy including phone banks, door knocks, house meetings, and other activities
  • Develop and carry out monthly grassroots actions to include but are not limited to: community meetings, press events, letters-to-the-editor, and community events.
  • Provide input and content for PL social media platforms
  • Participate in and conduct trainings as a part of professional development.
  • Works closely with National Organizing Director on relative campaign efforts
  • Represent PL in a professional manner to the community.

Qualifications:

  • One (1) or more years of experience in community organizing and previous experience with political campaigns or field or volunteer organizing
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and foster collaboration and trust in others in the high-pressure campaign environment
  • Proven record of success in setting and achieving goals
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to work independently
  • Cultural competency and ability to communicate effectively with people representing diverse interests, styles, and backgrounds
  • Excellent organizational and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Ability to be flexible and understanding with changes
  • Can meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment
  • Reliable internet, phone, and computer is required to temporarily work remotely during Covid19 work from home periods
  • Previous experience in digital marketing, online organizing, content creation, copy-writing, graphic design, videography, or related fields
  • Demonstrated passion for social justice.
  • Technologically savvy and able to learn how to use new databases, online platforms, etc relatively quickly
  • Being able to lift 25 pounds overhead without issue

Salary and Compensation:

Salary ranges between $40,000 - $45,000 for an entry-level organizer. The salary is accompanied by a generous benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and a 401K plan with an employer match. This is a 6-month contract, with the option to review and renew, with a 90-day probationary period.

Position Requirements:

This is a full-time position, based in Metro Atlanta. You must currently live in Metro Atlanta. The GA Climate Justice Organizer reports to the Georgia Organizing Coordinator.
