Deep’s Director, Restorative Practices and Culture is a salaried full-time position (40 hours/week). The Director, Restorative Practices and Culture reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for designing, staffing, managing research, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of Deep’s work advocating for and supporting the adoption of restorative justice culture and practices throughout Savannah’s ecosystem of youth-serving systems and institutions, such as Savannah-Chatham County Public School System and Chatham County Juvenile Court. 

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Strong, compassionate leadership and interpersonal skills
  • At least 5 years of experience managing a team of 3 or more
  • Understanding of public schools and teacher learning, including how to communicate using the metrics and institutional language of public educators and how to create original curricula
  • A deep commitment to supporting adult stakeholders to adopt humanizing, healing-centered restorative practices within their institutions
  • Strong knowledge of research-based restorative-justice practices, social emotional learning, PBIS, and other effective strategies for improving climate and culture within public institutions
  • Understanding of education justice and criminal justice reform movements, key issues these movements address, and typical reforms
  • Confidence with program evaluation
  • Comfort and skill interacting with a wide range of stakeholders in a variety of institutional and community settings, from youth leaders to district superintendents to policymakers to juvenile court judges to parents to university researchers
  • An assets-based framework for working with adults, youth, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds towards a more just and equitable world
  • Understanding of social, economic, and cultural systems and how historical and contemporary structural injustices adversely affect some communities while benefiting others. The ability to think strategically at the systems level to identify and articulate equitable solutions is a must.
  • Having an anti-racism lens, and an ability to talk fearlessly about race, class, gender, sexuality, migration, ability, and structural injustices

General Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement goals, objectives, and activities to ensure successful impact and outcomes of restorative justice programming for adult stakeholders
  • Build and maintain strong, strategic relationships with community stakeholders to further Deep’s mission and goals
  • Develop and oversee program’s annual budget
  • Compile, maintain, and report on annual programs statistics
  • Evaluate and report on programmatic successes and challenges
  • Oversee research, including participatory action research, that informs programmatic growth and evolution
  • Attend key Deep Center public events
  • Attend regular organizational meetings, such as weekly staff meetings, organizational retreats, and strategic planning events 
  • Communicate to board of directors as needed
  • Help develop and oversee Deep Center’s internal restorative protocols
  • Attend national conferences to learn and share Deep Center’s best practices

Human Resource Management

  • Direct, plan, and coordinate the work of program staff and young leaders, including supervision and evaluation, training, and team building
  • Organize and attend weekly program meetings to maintain effective communication
  • Ensure staff are adequately trained, qualified, and inspired to carry out the program activities

Program Implementation and Design

  • Supervise design and implementation of programs in accordance with mission and goals set forth by the board of directors and the Executive Director
  • Streamline, develop, refine, and evaluate program curricula and ensure alignment with Deep method and pedagogy 
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate recruitment strategies to maintain and/or expand the number of participants in programs
  • Develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction and mission of the organization

Research and Evaluation

  • Evaluate and report on successes and challenges of programs
  • Build and maintain strong, strategic relationships with research and evaluation partners
  • Develop program evaluation frameworks and metrics to assess the strengths and areas of improvement of programs
  • Coordinate and assist in the development of research and evaluation of Deep method, pedagogy, and impact  
  • Represent Deep Center locally, regionally, and nationally through writing, presenting, and publishing at conferences and other events
