Project background:

From bushfires in Australia to hurricanes in the Yucatán, signs of the ecological crisis are all around us. But there are also signs of hope. Everyday people are coming together to call for urgent and ambitious action to protect our common home and the future we share.

The Catholic Church is helping lead this movement. The Catholic Church has made a bold commitment to ushering in new ways of living, including the publication of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical letter on care for our common home.

In 2021, the Vatican will launch its Laudato Si’ Action Platform (LSAP), an ambitious global framework that encourages Catholic institutions, communities, and families to take action and connects them with resources that guide them. Similar to a tech start-up, developing this program is complex and it’s moving quickly. Similar to the Catholic Church, it offers a comprehensive vision that embraces diverse people and institutions from all around the world.

GCCM is part of a LSAP Steering Board led by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, with the participation of various Catholic networks, leading the design and rollout of this major program. We seek a program manager to help support the Steering Board’s launch of this program and its implementation for years to come.

About GCCM:

Global Catholic Climate Movement is an international network of Catholic people and 900 member organizations, all working together to develop solutions to the climate crisis. We are led by the Holy Spirit, and we find joy and support in our faith and each other. We act at the forefront of faith-based efforts to protect the environment, and our work is very fast-paced, with multiple projects and priorities managed daily. We enjoy a collaborative working environment in which everyone is committed to tackling the climate crisis with courage and love. We believe, as Pope Francis said in Laudato Si’, that “truly, much can be done!”

About this role

As the program manager, you’ll play a leading role in designing critical aspects of this new program while making sure it’s embraced by Catholic people and communities around the world.

You will be at the heart of both strategy and day-to-day work on this program. If you feel called to spiritual and cultural transformation and the concrete changes in sustainability that come with it, this is the role for you.

  • From managing workflows on a groundbreaking technical application to liaising with the heads of universities and religious orders, every day will bring new challenges and allow you to exercise your flair for innovative solutions.
  • You’ll ground your abilities to manage relationships, strategies, and projects in an authentic spirituality of loving kindness.
  • You’ll work at the scope of the Catholic Church, which represents one-sixth of all the people on Earth, provides 25% of all healthcare, is the world’s largest non-governmental provider of education, and has a centuries-long history of working for justice.

Web development supervision

  • liaise with a website developer, tracking the nuts and bolts of a complex website development project that will be launched in 7-10 languages
  • ensure that all website deliverables are met, including proactively nudging developer as needed
  • ensure that any changes to design or text are translated and published

Administration

  • assist in hiring for additional staff as budget comes available and line manage those staff
