HEAF is a supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values and personal resiliency they need to ensure success in school and career.  HEAF identifies students in middle school and supports them to and through four-year colleges, through a variety of after-school, Saturday and summer educational and youth development programs. Summer Quest’s mission is to ignite intellectual curiosity, and to cultivate academic development through a variety of inquiry and project-based enrichment classes throughout the summer.  Our goal is to offer rising 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th graders an advantage for the upcoming school year.

Program Summary:

  • Orientation: June 21st & 22nd
  • Program Dates: July 8th – August 2nd , 2019
  • Hours: Tuesday & Thursday, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM & Friday, August 2nd, 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Location: 80 Willoughby Street, Brooklyn New York, 11201


Summary:

Students will be introduced to the physical sciences through the construction of amusement park ride models. Using engaging, hands-on activities and K’NEX education products, students will explore such concepts as: the relationship between speed, distance and time, motion, displacement, and mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will be able to develop and implement an engaging, age-appropriate curriculum. The class will culminate in student presentations or group projects. They must be able to utilize progressive instructional models to engage students. The ability to create a safe and rich and fun learning environment is essential.

Job Requirements:

  • B.A. in Mathematics, Physics, Education or related field (M.A. preferred)
  • NYC licensed and/or NYS certification preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in middle school or similar youth environments
  • Experience designing curriculum a plus
  • Experience in cooperative learning and inquiry-based learning techniques
  • Impeccable classroom management skills
  • Ability and willingness to commit to entire summer program


Compensation:

$42/hour classroom instructional time

$15/hour administrative time meetings
