KID Museum is seeking a Managing Director, Community Engagement & Program Innovation to manage and lead the design and delivery of high-quality program experiences that foster inclusion and invite participation from diverse audiences through participatory program design and culturally sustainable practices.

This position is a core member of the Education Leadership Team, reporting to the Chief Program Officer (CPO), and is responsible for developing and leading the organization’s strategies and initiatives to create positive social impact in collaboration with community stakeholders. Develops relationships with partner organizations and community members to design and deliver high-impact programs that engage youth of diverse backgrounds in developing skills for the future.  Plans programs and events to foster inclusion and advance the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity, and accessibility.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of senior leadership experience, with 6-8 years of experience in program development and strategic partnerships; or a combination of education and experience.  Previous experience leading efforts in support of community engagement, education, and participatory program design. Graduate degree is a plus. Possess a passion for educational equity, access, and providing opportunities for youth and families from underserved or marginalized populations. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead efforts to design and deliver high-quality program experiences that foster inclusion and invite participation from our surrounding community through participatory program design and culturally sustainable practices.
  • Cultivate partnerships with community organizations and key stakeholders to develop innovative programs aligned with KID Museum’s mission and vision.
  • Develop and lead implementation of a program partnership model that supports meaningful collaboration and co-design and promotes youth engagement. 
  • Develop resources and assessment tools to support infusion of culturally sustainable practice across all KID programs and experiences. 
  • Support the development of grants and funding opportunities to generate revenue for programs that support participatory program design, culturally sustainable practice and program innovation. 
  • Partner with the leaders of Pedagogy & Learning Innovation, Teaching & Program Experience, and Program & Curriculum Development to ensure a participatory program design model and culturally sustainable practice is infused and aligned with all aspects of the museum’s design and delivery of programs.
  • Serve as a leader, modeling the core values of KID - curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and compassion.
  • Successfully complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to discover, qualify, and execute partnerships with diverse organizations.
  • Strategic thinker capable of designing engagement playbooks on an ongoing basis.
  • Scrappy, entrepreneurial spirit with an aptitude for overcoming obstacles with limited resources.
  • Dynamic interpersonal and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to give public presentations to diverse audiences - existing local network is a plus.
  • Takes ownership and accountability for actions and sees projects through to completion.
  • Confident converting leads to partners with a collaborative approach. 
  • Be a self-starter with strong project management skills and great attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, whether online, in-person, or in front of large audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize, evaluate and present large quantities of information and data with an equity lens.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and follow-up skills.  
  • Adaptable, flexible, patient, and able to work with little outside direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate cross-functionally, internally among teams and externally.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Able to perform with a high degree of professionalism.  
  • Available to attend occasional evening and weekend events and programs. 

The successful candidate must be able to perform the above tasks independently, accurately, reliably, and in a timely manner.
