The SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University (SUNY DS), Office of Diversity Education and Research (ODER)'s Science Technology Entry Program (STEP) will provide assistance to eligible mostly minority students in acquiring the skills, attitudes and abilities necessary to pursue professional or pre-professional study in post-secondary degree programs in scientific, technical and health-related fields by providing a comprehensive STEM curriculum, academic, career and financial aid advisement, and professional development to 98 students from 7-12 grades from partner schools in Brooklyn (Kings County), NY.  SUNY DS is partnering with the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health (AAIUH) to provide this program. The 98 STEP students will be co-enrolled in AAIUH's Health Science Academy (HSA) pipeline program serving grades 6-12 and it's alumni.

The part-time Administrative Coordinator will manage the day-to-day administrative operations of the STEP program (e.g., invoicing for instructors, supplies, liaisons’ stipends). Assist the STEP Program Coordinator with several functions including: create and collect program applications, create comprehensive databases, facilitate student interview process; develop parents’ association and STEP advisory committee meetings; Maintain regular communication with students and parents. Schedule field trips and arrange program travel. Manage student and staff health clearance and complete background checks for activities specialists and instructors; and facilitate room scheduling and virtual learning platforms.

OTHER

*The Administrative Coordinator will work closely with AAIUH's Health Science Academy staff to fulfill these responsibilities.

*The Administrative Coordinator will also assist with the educational support duties to maintain the STEP program's pipeline (e.g., co-facilitating lessons with middle school and high school students).

*A BA degree with course work in the health sciences and or education for grades 6-12 required. Experiences with office administration. Must reside in NYC on start date.

*Experience with afterschool curriculum, STEM pre-college programs, youth development, public health and teaching experiences preferred.


WORK SCHEDULE: 2.5 days a week (20 hours) including some evenings, and Saturdays, approx. March-May.
