CAP is currently hiring for a Development Associate. The Development Associate is a critical part of development and volunteer program at Cascade AIDS Project (CAP). Core areas of focus for the Development Associate include data systems management and donor/volunteer administrative communications. Data systems management will include data entry, analysis, tracking, training, and report creation utilizing multiple software platforms. Administrative communications include thank-you letters, gift receipts, invoices, scheduling, appeals, newsletters, and invitations using mail, email, social media, and phone. The Development Associate will provide support to CAP’s volunteer program through recruiting, orientations, application processing, placement, and recordkeeping. This position supports the activities of the Development & Communications Department and participates in team meetings and events. They will work very closely with the accounting team and connect frequently with programmatic staff. 


This position is part of CAP’s Development & Communications Department, and reports to the Director of Development & Communications. It is full-time, with some evening and weekend work required. The Development Associate will work at CAP’s Portland, Davis Street office. (During the COVID-19 pandemic, the position will be remote until further notice.)


Required Qualifications:

•         Either:

o         2+ years of data management or administration experience in a nonprofit development department, or

o         Equivalent, clearly demonstrated experience combining data management and administrative communications

•         Proficiency with CRM (Constituent Relationship Management) platforms, ideally some experience with Salesforce

•         Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

•         Excellent customer service skills and ability to engage authentically and effectively with different audiences including community members, staff, board, volunteers, funders, and other stakeholders

•         Excellent organizational skills, including high attention to detail

•         Highly organized and able to track and manage multiple projects simultaneously; including ability to prioritize work projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision

•         Ability to research and resolve financial/donor discrepancies with diplomacy and accuracy

•         Proficiency with mail merges, data import/export, mailing list generation, and processing

•         Proficiency with financial reconciliation and donation tracking

•         Proficiency with office technology and information systems (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

•         Ability to work under pressure and maintain a positive and professional demeanor

•         Authentic interest in Cascade AIDS Projects’ mission and work

•         Strong understanding of equity, inclusion, and social justice

•         Must be available to work evening and weekends


Preferred Qualifications:

•         Experience in supporting major fundraising events; particularly guest reservations, seating, and auctions.

•         Experience with auction management software (such as Greater Giving) including registration and payment processing

•         Experience working with donors, managing the donor relationship, and tracking individual donations, specifically Salesforce

•         Experience in volunteer coordination

•         Working knowledge and experience working with web-based donation platforms

•         Commitment to continued professional development to strengthen capacity to work through an equity lens for social justice.
