The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that promotes and protects human rights globally, with a focus on closed societies. HRF unites people in the common cause of defending human rights and promoting liberal democracy. Our mission is to ensure that freedom is both preserved and promoted around the world. HRF produces the annual Oslo Freedom Forum.

The Oslo Freedom Forum (OFF) is HRF’s annual flagship conference series which raises the voices of people living under oppressive regimes, by bringing together the world’s most engaging human rights advocates, artists, tech entrepreneurs, and world leaders to share their stories and brainstorm ways to expand freedom and unleash human potential across the globe. Over the past three years, HRF has expanded OFF to new regions, including Asia, Latin America, and Africa, with conferences in Taipei, Mexico City, Johannesburg, and New York City, to reach new audiences, build a wider network, and focus on region-specific issues. 

HRF is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the full-time position of Digital Associate focusing on the Oslo Freedom Forum global conference series. This is a unique opportunity to help increase the quality and impact of the event and expand its incredible community of activists. This position reports directly to the Chief Program Officer and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating comprehensive strategic communications for the event series.

Responsibilities

• Develop a comprehensive strategy for showcasing OFF-related content and news (including news about community members) on an ongoing basis.
• Develop a comprehensive strategy for year-round OFF community engagement.
• Develop and manage a social media plan for Twitter, Clubhouse, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and other platforms involving the use of both scheduled posts, live events, real-time reaction to unfolding news.
• Develop a promotional strategy for pre, during, and post-event communications relating to OFF, including drafting all conference announcements, invitations, attendee updates, daily recaps, and event surveys, summaries, brochures, and impact reports for the annual OFF and satellite events.
• Manage the drafting, editing, and updating of OFF web content.
• Ensure quality of OFF print and online marketing content: copy editing, proofreading, and ensuring consistent style and brand implementation.
• Oversee the maintenance of an archive of all OFF speaker videos.
• Work with the Media Liaison, Chief Strategy Officer, and Norway Director to ensure that OFF promotional content and marketing efforts are as effective as possible

The Digital Associate will possess the ability to prioritize projects and tasks, meet multiple and competing deadlines, and monitor several projects simultaneously. The position requires superb organizational and time-management skills and requires an interest in improving and streamlining processes and systems. The candidate must be outgoing and highly detail-oriented with top-notch creative writing skills and an entrepreneurial, energetic spirit.

Requirements / Qualifications

• A strong understanding of, and affinity for, HRF’s mission, including a passion for human rights, political freedom, and civil liberties.
• Excellent interpersonal, communications, writing, and editing skills.
• Strong understanding of, and experience, with social media.
• Commitment to being a self-starter with a keen eye for strategizing across multiple programs and formats.
• Attention to detail, a commitment to deadlines, and grace under pressure with multiple and shifting priorities.
• At least 2 years of experience in communications and marketing strategies. 
• Experience with software like Buffer, Meltwater, and MailChimp is preferred.
