JVS is a non-profit, non-sectarian agency. Our mission is to empower individuals from diverse communities to find employment and build careers, and to partner with employers to hire, develop and retain productive workforces.

JVS provides a broad range of services including adult education, skills training, job readiness training, job placement and support, and access to post-secondary education. JVS assists employers in their search for well- qualified job applicants and their initiatives to upgrade the skills of their incumbent workforce.

In partnership with Boston Builds Credit (BBC), this position will be working on the Community College Credit Building Initiative (CCCBI), which is seeking to support students who are “non-traditional” students with an emphasis on students of color, immigrants, and first-generation students.  CCCBI seeks to address wealth inequality in Boston by uplifting and empowering low-moderate income college students to build credit and take control of their finances, which will, in turn, ensure that more college students successfully graduate. Studies show that college graduates earn significantly more money and have higher net worth than those with only a high school education.

The Financial Empowerment Coach will provide 1:1 financial coaching and financial education workshops at community colleges in the Boston area including Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC), Roxbury Community College (RCC), and Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT). The financial empowerment coach will conduct outreach to the students of BHCC, RCC, and BFIT.

The JVS financial empowerment coach provides financial coaching and guidance to empower clients to set and reach their financial goals. Financial coaching activities generally focus on goal setting, budgeting, building credit, and identifying opportunities to increase savings and decrease debt.  The coach connects students to community resources such as career path programs, income supports, free tax assistance and basic needs assistance.  The Financial Empowerment Coach will have multiple meetings with each client and track progress of individual participants, provide information needed for funder reports, and participate in regular team meetings.

  • Provide financial coaching confidentially with clients to develop plans of action that are intended to empower clients to reach their financial goals and achieve financial stability.
  • Track and meet financial coaching outcomes (ex. Enrollment, multiple meetings, financial outcomes) set by the agency and funders.

  • Build a pipeline of students interested in regular coaching through workshops (webinars), phone calls/texts/emails, and other marketing methods.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on financial topics.

Build relationships, collaboration and teamwork:

  • Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with BHCC, RCC and BFIT staff to ensure financial coaching services are integrated with relevant academic and administrative departments.
  • Create a coaching environment with clients where you listen and ask open ended questions, act as a thinking partner, inspire ownership, and partner with a client to improve their financial well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with the financial coaching team to continually improve delivery of high quality financial coaching services to participants.
  • Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with key stakeholders (participants, partner organizations, funders etc.)
  • Support and promote the mission and philosophy of JVS both internally and outside the agency.
  • Regularly attend conferences, trainings, and meetings set by the financial community, internal teams, and funders.
