ESOL Teacher- Evenings

As the first settlement house in the nation and for over 130 years, University Settlement has been empowering New York residents by building on their strengths through comprehensive, quality services that meet the current needs of the community; innovation that anticipates future needs; and advocacy to improve the community as a whole.  

The Adult Literacy Program provides ESOL classes to immigrant adults in New York City. The ESOL Teacher will teach and monitor ESOL classes.

What You Will Be Doing: 

• Teach and monitor ESOL classes (classes will begin online and then continue in person according to city and state guidelines)

• Assign and administer exams

• Teach basic computer skills and regularly use technology in the classroom

• Regularly use class texts and supplemental materials

• Maintain attendance and performance records

• Follow and enforce program policies and rules

• Attend a minimum of 14 hours of professional development and attend staff meetings 

What We Are Looking For: 

• You have a B.A. Degree in TESOL, English, or TESOL certificate 

• You have 2+ years’ experience in teaching ESOL 

• Experience with online teaching including Zoom (or similar video conferencing platform) and G Suite

Hours:

• P/T 10 hours per week: 7.5 hours of instruction (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 6:30pm-9:00pm) plus 2.5 hours prep, training, and professional development.

• Must commit to teaching classes from September through June.
