Overview:

Serendipity Center is looking for an experienced, collaborative, creative fundraiser to join our team.

The Director of Development is responsible for developing and implementing all fundraising strategies for the school, sharing Serendipity’s story with constituents, media, and prospective donors, supporting a major capital campaign, collaborating with Serendipity’s long-time grant writing contractor, and meeting operational and programmatic financial support goals for the organization.


This position is supported by an Administrative Assistant who also aides the Assistant and Executive Directors. The successful                  candidate will have deep grassroots fundraising experience, excellent communication skills, and be comfortable soliciting both financial and in-kind donations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising (70%)

  • Consults with Management Team to determine goals and objectives, scope, feasibility, and funding needs for program
  • Manage and execute our annual, multi-channel campaign, the Four Pillar Fund (this includes developing content for direct mail appeals, website, social media, and organizing stewardship events).
  • Manage a small portfolio of donors $1,000 and up and major donor prospects.
  • Collaborate with school staff to determine goals and objectives, scope, feasibility, and funding needs for programs.
  • Liaise with supporters, including foundations, businesses, and donors.
  • Identify potential contributors to special projects funds and ongoing operations.
  • Manage supporter records using Donor Quest database, with support from the Finance Department.
  • Plan and coordinate stewardship and fundraising events (2-3 per year), with assistance from Administrative Assistant.
  • Collaborate with the Finance department to manage donor records.
  • Receive and acknowledge all financial and in-kind donations made to the school.
  • Manage corporate support programs, including creating proposals, meeting with corporate supporters and prospects, stewardship.
  • Attend some board meetings and present a monthly fundraising report.
  • Work with the board to determine individual financial pledges and ability to fundraise and identify fundraising targets.

Management (15%)

  • Create and manage annual fundraising budget and strategic plan, including establishing short- and long-range goals to meet organizational fundraising objectives.
  • Manage relationships with contract grant writer and work collaboratively with them to determine appropriate funders, approve all grant applications, and submit grant reports.
  • Coordinate meetings and activities of the Donor Advisory Committee.
  • Participate as a member of Serendipity’s Management Team.

Communications (15%)

  • Works collaboratively to create and distribute messaging content across all communication platforms including social media and website.
  • Write, edit, and prepare email newsletters bi-monthly using MailChimp.
  • Research and write quarterly impact reports.
  • Arrange and conduct school tours for potential donors and media representatives.

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Education/experience: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of non-profit experience
  • General Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient MS Office 365 and word processing and database skills. Basic desktop publishing skills.
  • Experience with Greater Giving, and Donor Quest a plus.
  • Physical Demands: Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
  • Other Requirements: Must be able to travel around town during the workday, pass a pre-employment background check through the Oregon Department of Education.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Quiet office environment one block away from the school. Occasionally travels around town visiting other organizations or attending public relations functions. When occasionally in the school environment it is possible that an employee may encounter a student experiencing crisis, which pay pose a safety risk. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, but occasionally may be moderate.
