The Organization:

Give & Surf is alocally embedded 501(c)(3) non-profit organization of volunteers providing sustainable empowerment to indigenous communities in Bocas del Toro, Panama, through education and community development. Its locally driven initiatives include preschool and after-school programs, summer camps, English classes, extracurricular activities, teen mentorship programs, and a scholarship program for high school and university students. Give & Surf now serves 10 communities on 6 islands and provides programs or services to over 1,000 children each week.

The Role:

We are looking for an energetic, dynamic Director of Education to be the leader to our teachers, instructors, interns, and volunteers and oversee the day-to-day operations of our programs. This position will be responsible for spearheading Give & Surf’s educational programs and be an integral member of a small team committed to providing a life-changing education to the local children of Bocas del Toro. The programs under this individual's management are preschool, after-school program, summer school/camp, ESL, and extracurricular activities in 5 local communities. The Director of Education will also work closely with the Give & Surf president to develop new programs and activities to meet the needs of the communities we serve.

We are seeking an individual who is committed to engaging in our community and igniting positive change at the school and other educational and developmental projects.The ideal teacher for this position is hardworking, flexible, creative, self-motivated, and is capable of making the best of limited resources and adapting to unforeseen circumstances and difficult conditions. The Director of Education is responsible for coaching and mentoring local teachers and staff, overseeing lesson planning and curriculum development, assessing each student's progress quarterly, planning field trips & social activities, and providing overall leadership to the organization. He/She must be able to gain the trust of the community and build strong relationships with the parents, students, and community leaders.


  • Teaching experience, preferably with a wide range of ages
  • International travel experience and comfortable working with diverse populations.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Creative, out-of-the-box thinking with a great sense of humor
  • Experience living and working in a Latin American country and in rural or indigenous communities preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field
  • Interest in grassroots organization, poverty alleviation, community development, and education
  • TEFL or TESOL certification preferred

Must be fluent in Spanish and have advanced proficiency in English.
