Position: Deputy Director, Economic Mobility Exchange

Hours: 40 / Full time?Salaried

General Summary of Duties:

EMPath manages a learning network, the Economic Mobility Exchange (“Exchange”). The Exchange is comprised of approximately over 80 organizations and government agencies from around the world interested in learning about and implementing EMPath’s Mobility Mentoring® approach and tools used to support low-income families and individuals in their goal to become economically self-sufficient. The Deputy Director role will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of a learning management system (LMS) to scale trainings and online interactions with members, leading targeted outreach and marketing efforts to strategically grow the network, supporting the infrastructure and staffing of the Exchange and activities within, providing consultations and trainings, and maintaining strong relationships with a portfolio of member organizations.



  • Oversee and provide project management for the design, procurement, implementation and ongoing development of a learning management system (LMS);
  • Supervise staff in the technical development of LMS content and design; as well as ongoing system support and content evolution;
  • Develop and execute a marketing and outreach plan to strategically grow the network;
  • Collaborate with Exchange member organizations to find opportunities to publicly highlight and promote their implementation of a Mobility Mentoring informed model and learnings/best practices;
  • Coordinate with Institutional Advancement to develop marketing and outreach material;
  • Project Manage Career Compass; including marketing to new audiences and evolving tool design and capabilities;
  • Manage portfolio of Exchange members; provide consultation and support to organizations in the process of implementing a Mobility Mentoring ® informed approach;
  • Facilitate internal and external EMPath trainings and presentations;
  • Lead ongoing projects to share and disseminate research, learnings and resources amongst network members; 
  • Other related research, supervisory, administrative, and development duties as necessary

  • Flexible, high degree of comfort with ambiguity, enthusiasm, and a good sense of humor essential


Educational and Other Requirements:

  • Masters degree in a relevant field required (ie. social work, human services, public health, sociology, psychology, education, public administration)
  • Experience with online learning platforms and adult education
  • Experience with marketing, outreach, and/or sales
  • Understanding of trauma-informed coaching models, motivational interviewing, EMPath’s Mobility Mentoring® model desirable
  • Experience providing technical assistance and/or consultation to nonprofit organizations
  • 5-7+ years of experience managing; preferably in non-profit settings serving low-income communities
  • Commitment to EMPath’s mission
  • Ability to travel, including out of state, approximately 25% of time
