Shark Conservation Fund Overview:

The Shark Conservation Fund (SCF) is a philanthropic collaborative established in 2016 to address the shark and ray crisis. It is a sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Inc. (RPA). The SCF focuses on halting the overexploitation of the world’s sharks and rays, preventing extinctions, reversing declines and restoring populations. We believe that major investments are needed in policy development, outreach and advocacy, conservation science, communications and media, capacity building and monitoring. Our goals are to:


·        Ensure that the global trade in shark and ray products is effectively regulated under Appendix I or II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES);

·        Prevent the extinction of the most endangered sharks and rays by enhancing legal protections in priority countries and through international forums and

·        Combat unsustainable shark and ray fishing through the adoption and implementation of conservation and management measures through international forums and in priority countries.

Position Overview:

The Grants Manager is responsible for the administration of all grants and contracts (including both supporting grants from SCF members and shark and ray conservation grants to external partners) and collaborates with SCF leadership and RPA to promote and apply best practices for effective, efficient and knowledgeable grants management. This is a half time position that reports to the Executive Director and works remotely.


Responsibilities: The Grants Manager is primarily responsible for successfully managing supporting grants from SCF’s members and grantmaking to project partners and contracting processes. Specific responsibilities include:


Grants Management (80%)

·        Oversee the SCF grant application and management process:

o  Use the Foundant grants management system to manage the submission of letters of intent, concept notes, proposals, acceptance letters and all reports to SCF members and from SCF grantees.

o  Work with RPA to obtain and review necessary due diligence materials and track payments to grantees.

o  Track all reporting deadlines to SCF members and for grantees to ensure the timely submission of all required reports.

o  Draft proposals and reports for SCF members and review grantee proposals and reports to ensure they are following SCF proposal and report templates and guidelines.

·        Keep the Executive Director informed about upcoming deadlines and deliverables.

·        Provide detailed reports to SCF’s Board of Advisors with respect to the organization's progress.

  • Assist in the development of materials and presentations for Board meetings. 
  • Identify and develop strategies to optimize the grants administration process.

·        Participate in and/or assist with special projects.    

·        Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Administrative (20%)

·        Provide logistical and other support for Board calls and meetings including:

o  Meeting and call planning and logistics;

o  Maintaining a written record of meeting discussions and decisions and

o  Compiling and distributing Board meeting documents.

·        Provide fundraising support:

o  Work with the Executive Director and Board to identify, research and cultivate potential SCF members and

o  Assist in planning and conducting fundraising events and meetings.

·        Undertake basic financial management tasks including:

o  Processing of grants and contracts for payment; and

o  Submission of invoices for payment.

·        Support the Executive Director including:

o  Arranging meetings and calls and

o  Conducting research.


Requirements:

•                   Bachelor’s degree required.

•                   A minimum of five years of experience in grants management or fundraising at a private foundation or public charity.

•                   Proven program management skills, including ability to handle multiple projects at different stages simultaneously, ability to work independently and a strong capacity to set priorities and identify resources. 

•                   Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written English required. 

•                   Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with an ability to write clearly and cogently for internal and external audiences.

•                   Strong interpersonal skills, ability to develop and manage productive relationships with colleagues, consultants and coalition partners. Excellent listening skills.

•                   Exhibit strong skills of diplomacy with seasoned and sound judgment. Ability to work productively with a wide array of people and institutions with differing perspectives.

·                    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

·                    Experience with Foundant, or other grants management systems strongly preferred.

·                    Limited US travel is required.
