HEAF is a comprehensive supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values, and personal resilience they need to ensure success in school, career, and life. HEAF identifies scholars in middle school and supports them until they are successfully admitted to four-year colleges through a variety of after-school, Saturday, and summer educational and youth development programs.

Program Description:

●              September 2021– June 2022

●              Thursdays 4:30pm-5:30pm

●              Elective Cultural Arts Course: Theater & Performance Arts

●              The course is taught to a mixed group of 9th-11th Graders from various NYC High Schools

●              Hourly wage: $50 per instructional hour, $15 per administrative hour


Job/Course Description: College Quest, HEAF’S high school program, is looking for an energetic and engaging instructor who loves history and the arts. The Cultural Literacy course teaches students the history, human experience, and connection between cultures. Throughout the course, students will develop cultural versatility, confidence, and awareness of career paths in creative fields. The course will introduce students to performing, fine, and at times culinary arts by way of classroom discussions, project-based group assignments, and an exciting range of cultural outings, which may include Broadway shows, dance performances, plays, concerts, exotic food tastings, and/or field trips to explore careers in the arts. Each cultural outing will be followed by a group discussion intended for reflection and critical analysis. Students’ final project will include the history, performance descriptions, and analysis of each excursion. As a final project, students will create group multi-media presentations.


Job Requirements:

●              B.A. in Education, History, Arts or related field

●              NYC/NYS certification or significantly experienced

●              Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in middle school, high school, or Community-Based Organizations

●              Excellent written and oral communication skills

●              Proficient with M.S. Word and M.S. PowerPoint

●              Excellent interpersonal skills with youth

●              Impeccable classroom management skills

●              Willingness to promote HEAF educational and youth development philosophy

●              Ability to work collaboratively with the HEAF staff

●              Ability and willingness to commit to the entire program, including attending all trips and excursions

●              Ability and willingness to have FUN in the classroom
