People's Theatre Project is seeking a Program Manager to carry out the coordination and management of its school-based and on-site theatre and social justice programs.

Rooted in Upper Manhattan, People's Theatre Project (PTP) is an arts and social justice organization that creates ensemble-based theatre with and for immigrant communities to develop generations of diverse, socially-engaged artists and leaders.

PTP's core programming includes: PTP Partnerships, which provide K–12 students the experience of devising theatre in their school environments; the PTP Academy, which offers dedicated young people a rigorous and supportive multi-year arts and social justice leadership program; and the PTP Company, which offers young people and all New Yorkers access to professionally-produced devised theatre with an immigrant focus. Through this programmatic cycle, PTP participants deepen their sense of power, strengthen their connection to community, and develop the skills to become creative, collaborative, and compassionate civic artists.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

PTP Partnerships Management

  • Draft and file proposals for school partners in collaboration with Artistic Director
  • Maintain school files, inclusive of proposals, work orders, and attendance
  • Coordinate, maintain and communicate teaching artist and apprentice schedules in cloud-based system
  • Coordinate schedule changes with teaching artists, subs, and apprentices 
  • Collect attendance records, prepare and distribute invoices to partners on a monthly basis.

PTP Academy Management

  • Manage the online registration process for all classes
  • Work in partnership with Youth Advocate/Parent Liaison to communicate important information to participants and their parents through email, phone calls, text messages, and in-person conversations
  • Co-plan and participate in parent orientation with Program Team
  • Provide on-site supervision for PTP Academy sessions to ensure a safe environment (Saturdays and After School)
  • Coordinate Fall, Spring, end of year rehearsals and festivals in collaboration with Program Team

PTP Company Management

  • Support artistic director with coordination and communication of rehearsal and performance schedule for this touring company of two ensembles

General Coordination

  • Present and maintain a warm and welcoming environment 
  • Answer phones and direct calls to appropriate desk
  • Ensure that programs operate within the approved budget in collaboration with Managing Director and Artistic Director 
  • Manage inventory and purchase of program supplies within budget
  • Receipt management in coordination with finance team
  • Manage Reimbursements for TAs and other staff
  • Make all food orders for programs and staff trainings
  • Coordinate scheduling of studio space
  • Communicate any and all unresolved issues or incidents in a timely manner to the Artistic Director

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • BA degree in a related subject with 1-3 year of experience in the field, or
  • 2 - 4 years of related nonprofit/arts/education experience 
  • Experience working with immigrant communities of color

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in both English and Spanish
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under strong deadlines
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Goals and systems oriented
  • At ease with cloud-based systems

Personal characteristics

  • Peacebuilder: Strong listener, communicator and collaborator
  • Passion for the performing arts, public education and social justice
  • Connection to the Washington Heights/Inwood community is a plus

Working Conditions

  • The Program Manager will report to the Artistic Director and work out of the PTP office, located at 5030 Broadway in Inwood. 
  • The Program Manager is a full-time position. Please note: The general weekly schedule is Tuesday - Saturday when programs are in session (approx. 34 Saturdays a year). Several days of the week may start later and end later than regular office hours to provide site supervision for afterschool program. Events outside of these hours will require occasional weekend and evening flexibility.
