Program Manager

Position Profile

The Girls on the Run® Program Manager must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades. The Girls on the Run program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living which includes an introduction and education on important topics such as goal-setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event. The innovative curriculum teaches girls to listen and open up while also encouraging them to commit to a healthy lifestyle and harness the inner strength that they possess. Our important mission is accomplished by giving girls the tools to make positive choices for a healthy body and mind, while reducing the many risks they face today. Girls on the Run Rhode Island (GOTRRI) is a 501(c)(3) organization and currently serves all of Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts.

Girls on the Run believes that all girls and communities should have access to our programs. We warmly welcome the participation of any child who identifies as “girl”, non-binary or gender expansive in our programs. We strive to eliminate barriers to participation, to continue creating programming that engages all communities, to be intentional about staff and volunteer diversity and to promote a culture of inclusion across the organization.

The Program Manager is a full-time exempt position and reports to the Girls on the Run Rhode Island Executive Director. The Program Manger is responsible for managing all Girls on the Run programs and coach volunteers. Key responsibilities within these areas include but are not limited to:

Program Outreach and Site Management

• Implement the Girls on the Run strategic program plan and achieve program goals with respect to number of girls served, number of site locations and demographic requirements with a focus on inclusion and diversity
• Develop effective marketing strategies and material that result in site network growth
• Work with community leaders, schools and other groups to maximize the success of Girls on the Run programming
• Manage and support the needs of new and existing sites
• Conduct in-season site visits to ensure quality program implementation
• Enforce current site policies and procedures, implementing improvements as needed

Coach Management and Training

• Ensure program sites have trained and qualified volunteer coaches
• Manage coach training, including Girls on the Run National Coach Training, CPR & First Aid, and background checks
• Enforce current coaching policies and procedures, implementing improvements as needed
• Work with sites to develop effective coach recruitment and retention strategies
• Oversee and support the needs of coach volunteers
• Design and implement coach appreciation initiatives

Program Management

• Manage inventory and distribution of coach and program curriculum, materials and supplies
• Work with Executive Director to develop and track program budget
• Manage program events, site and coach recruitment applications in RacePlanner
• Ensure timely and accurate collection of data including for the seasonal program evaluations
• Oversee information management of rosters, girls, numbers and program revenue
• Manage participant financial assistance policies and procedures
• Manage communications to sites, coaches and families including emails and social media

Organizational Support

• Communicate program impact, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and more using relevant and branded content via GOTRRI’s social media channels
• Play a key leadership role at the fall and spring end-of-season 5K events
• Attend community events on behalf of the organization to raise awareness of the organization or in support of a community partnership
• Coordinate and attend organization events including site visits, prospective site or coach meetings, coach training, fundraisers and the Girls on the Run 5K events
