About the Position

StreetSquash is seeking a driven, innovative Academic Coordinator with a passion for supporting young people and putting them on the path to achieving their higher education goals. This position will report to the Program Director.


·   Facilitate daily after-school homework and academic support sessions for two grades, managing volunteers and tutors, and assisting individual students

·   Support students in their academic and personal growth through programming and relationship-building

·   Meet weekly with teachers to assess students’ progress and communicate regularly with parents, guidance counselors, and others in each student’s support system

·   Work closely with squash coordinator to meet the needs of your teams, including communicating with families, planning team trips, college visits, and cultural outings, organizing community service activities, facilitating team-building workshops, etc.

·   Develop and implement enrichment and skill-building curricula, in particular College Preparation

·   Work closely with academic team to coordinate programming

·   Collaborate on program-wide initiatives and projects including curriculum development and facilitation for summer programming


We are seeking candidates with a deep commitment to academics in the context of youth development who are results oriented and have strong collaboration skills. You should have:

·     1-2 years experience in youth development with students of color attending public schools in urban areas

·     Significant experience managing groups of students in an academic setting

·     Experience with tutoring, homework help and academic advising

·     Strong middle and high school behavior management skills

·     Experience writing and implementing curriculum targeted toward middle and high school students

·     Excellent writing, research and computer skills

·     Project management, interpersonal, organizational and networking skills critical

·     Supervisory experience a plus

·     Sensitivity to different cultures and communities

·     Sense of humor and significant experience working with adolescents

·     Knowledge of NJ State secondary and higher education systems a plus

·     Valid driver’s license, comfort and capacity to occasionally drive vans

·     Must be able to work some weekends

·     Conversational Spanish a plus

·     Bachelor's required, Master's preferred
