We are seeking a Dance Teacher to join our Visual and Performing Arts team in September of 2018. The Visual and Performing Arts department integrates art performance and art education into our programs serving thousands of New Yorkers in need, including our Early Childhood Center, RealArts Afterschool Program and Summer Camp, two senior centers, day program for older adults with dementia or related disorders, and housing and homeless services. This is an exciting position for someone who is passionate about bringing performing arts and arts education to our community as part of a strong, collaborative inter-disciplinary organization.

The Dance Teacher is responsible for planning and teaching dance classes for a variety of populations, including children in our Early Childhood, After School and Summer Camp programs; and older adults who participate in our senior centers and day program for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The Dance Teacher is also responsible for assisting with the creation of program performances and the general supervision of participants during music classes and related activities. The Dance Teacher will work with a team of arts educators and must be a caring individual who has experience working with diverse populations. 

 Qualifications: The Dance Teacher will possess a combination of dance and education programming skills. S/he will be energetic, self-motivated, and will be creative and thoughtful in the development and oversight of dance-related educational programming. S/he must have great communication, with a demonstrated commitment to implementing and expanding quality arts education. Relevant Bachelor’s Degree in dance, or related field required. Must have a minimum of 1 year of previous experience teaching school age children. The hours are approximately 30 hours/week.
