The Social Impact Exchange (aka “Exchange”) is addressing critical social issues by leveraging broad-based networks of stakeholders to enable system change and the scale-up of evidence based education-related nonprofits. The Senior Manager will play a key role in the development and support of this work. S/he will work with and support a range of important relationships and work: from cross sector collaboratives of funders and key stakeholders in our Education Initiatives focused on effecting systems change to our Knowledge Platform that includes both our Annual conference and Learning Community that focus on sharing key learnings, approaches and case studies on integrated, systemic change strategies.
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of Education and matrixed into the co-presidents, the Senior Manager will support and, in certain cases, steward key relationships, forging deeper connections and relationships amongst funders, affinity groups, thought leaders and other stakeholders. S/he will also participate in developing the internal strategy and processes for the syndication of work associated with the Education Initiatives and Knowledge Platform, including creating the appropriate tracking and reporting mechanisms. S/he will identify and cultivate new potential members, provide background research, draft value proposition documents, and grant proposals and reports. S/he will support and participate in strategic planning and implementation of new collaborations that yield co-funding of systems change initiatives. For some key relationships s/he will be the primary contact from the Exchange; for others, s/he will support the relationship with others on staff.
The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience in education-related philanthropy and/or nonprofit development/fundraising, preferably with exposure to funding of scaling organizations and high-impact, innovative strategies for systemic social change. S/he will be self-driven with a keen and demonstrated commitment to advance the Exchange’s ambitious goals. S/he will work with the leadership at the Exchange to build an enduring, robust marketplace ecosystem in the social sector. The Senior Manager will have a proven track record of successful stewardship of grants and relationship management paired with an understanding of leading issues in the education sector and systems change. S/he will be a capable manager and influencer of people and process, and a sophisticated steward of complex, long-term partnerships. Outstanding written and oral communications skills are a must, as are keen attention to detail and the flexibility to operate with unknowns while establishing best practices, systems, and processes to ensure sustainable success.
The Exchange is a small organization staff-wise and operates with a nimble, entrepreneurial early-stage mindset. As such, in addition to the above responsibilities, the Senior Manager should have professional work approaches and organizational skills honed over time that allow him/her to be effective and highly self-supporting. Further, adaptability, good colleagueship and internal community building are important attributes of the Exchange’s culture.
About the Social Impact Exchange:
The Exchange was launched in 2009 and is a national membership association dedicated to learning together and developing practices for funding clusters of well-vetted initiatives that can shift systems and 2 achieve large scale impact on difficult social problems. It now has 4,000+ members and more than 60 leaders and funders serving on Working Groups. Its purpose is to serve as a common ground and focal point for those interested in further building the field of scaling social impact, and a platform that facilitates the efficient flow of capital to scalable solutions and systems change efforts.
