About the Organization

The mission of Apex for Youth is to deliver possibilities to underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-­income families in NYC. Apex serves students from 1st to 12th grade in New York City through educational, after-school, athletic, and middle school/high school mentoring programs. 

We provide youth/teens with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors, tutors, and coaches. Ultimately, Apex for Youth aims to nurture youth/teens who will be confident, college and career-ready individuals who are actively engaged in their community.

Apex’s Elementary Programs addresses the educational, physical, and social-emotional needs of elementary students through athletics, small group tutoring, enrichment, and emotional support programs run by caring adult volunteers. Elementary sessions take place on Saturdays from October - June. Elementary also offers summer programming to its participants during July - August. We anticipate the majority of Elementary programming in the 2021-2022 school year to take place in person. A newly created role, the Senior Elementary Programs Manager will report to the Assistant Director of Education Programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in working with elementary aged youth, excellent program management skills, and experience supervising staff.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all aspects of Elementary Programs including program design, curriculum development, and supervision of staff;
  • Oversee the recruitment, matching, and training process for all elementary volunteers with the support of the Elementary program managers;
  • Provide supervision and ongoing support to a team of four elementary program managers; 
  • Lead event-planning for major events and outings with support of program managers;
  • Collaborate with Social Work department for mental health support for elementary youth;
  • Oversee collection and analysis of program data with support of program managers and Data Analyst; 
  • Liaise with Development department for fundraising needs;
  • Attend all program and leadership meetings, as necessary.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS 

  • BA or BS required;
  • 3-4 years experience working with youth in a management role preferred;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to create genuine relationships;
  • Positive and bright disposition with “can do” attitude;
  • Proactive nature and self starter, ability to problem-solve autonomously;
  • Enjoys working closely with a team, as well as independently;
  • Ability to work on Saturdays and take Sunday-Monday as the weekend.

Paid Time Off: In the first year of employment, you will be eligible for 10 vacation days and 12 paid federal holidays observed by Apex for Youth. Additionally, Apex closes for one week over the winter holidays and one week during the Fourth of July. You are also entitled to 5 sick days per year and 3 personal days a year. Additional vacation days accrue according to years worked in the organization.

Salary range: The salary range for this position is $65-75,000, depending on experience.
