Urban Alliance (UA), a national youth workforce development nonprofit, is currently seeking a Summer Program Coordinator to facilitate an eight-week college internship program for 35 recipients of the David. M. Rubenstein Scholarship through a partnership between Urban Alliance and the Economic Club of Washington, D.C. The Summer Program Coordinator will support all aspects of the Economic Club summer internship program, including interviewing and selecting applicants and supporting selected participants in their professional development through internships with companies and organizations. This position is located in Washington, DC.

 

About Urban Alliance

Urban Alliance provides economically-disadvantaged young people with the exposure, opportunity, support, and training needed to prepare them for lifelong economic self-sufficiency. Urban Alliance’s core program matches underserved high school seniors with paid, professional internships, job skills training, one-on-one mentoring, and ongoing post-program support to expand their ideas of what is possible for their futures. Since its founding in Washington, DC in 1996, Urban Alliance has expanded to Baltimore, Chicago, Northern Virginia, and Detroit. To date, Urban Alliance has placed more than 4,000 students in paid internships and served more than 18,000 youth through job skills training.


Applicants for the Summer Program Coordinator position must be available to work from mid-February 2020 through July 2020 The Program Coordinator will work 35 hours per week.

 

Summer Program Coordinator Responsibilities

Intern support: Review intern applications and resumes; Organize and facilitate applicant interviews; Assist UA and Economic Club staff with intern selection; Monitor the performance and professional growth of 35 college interns; Formally evaluate intern job performance and skill development; Troubleshoot and mediate job-site conflicts.

Facilitation: Facilitate two weeks of professional development workshops before internship placement and weekly workshops throughout the eight-week program.

External relationship management – Build and maintain relationships with students, mentors, and staff at the Economic Club of Washington, D.C.

Data managementTrack, analyze, and report program and intern data; Actively use outcome data to guide program decisions for real-time course corrections

 

Qualifications

  • At minimum a Bachelor's Degree
  • Facilitation and/or teaching experience with high school or college students
  • Experience working in youth development
  • Experience working with community organizations and schools in under-resourced areas
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (including mediation skills)
  • Ability to present oneself professionally and maintain professional working relationships with youth and external partners
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint
  • Flexible and capable of adapting to change
