Citizens Union Foundation and Citizens Union

Position:             Development Director

Reports to:        Executive Director

SUMMARY

Citizens Union’s new Executive Director, Betsy Gotbaum, started work in February 2018. An expert fundraiser, she seeks a Development Director to partner with her in cultivating her network along with Citizens Union’s existing donor base and other potential funders. The Development Director will focus on major gifts from individuals and foundations, while leading two special events annually with an event consultant and a board committee, and managing direct mail and e-mail fundraising.

THE POSITION

The Development Director is responsible for fundraising for our two interrelated organizations —a 501(c)(4) known as Citizens Union and a 501(c)(3) known as Citizens Union Foundation. The two organizations work to educate and activate New Yorkers and to advance good government and political reform in New York. The Director develops and executes the overall fundraising strategy and works closely with the Executive Director and board members to implement the plan and raise money for the organizations. The current annual combined expense budget is about $1.6 million.

The Director currently supervises one employee, the Development and Membership Associate, as well as any consultants the organization may retain to assist in the coordination of special events. The Development Director participates in marketing, promotional activities, and communications to CU’s members and donors, in collaboration with the Communications and Marketing Manager.
