SOAR (Sisters Overcoming Abusive Relationships) Coordinator

Summary: The incumbent coordinates the creation and implementation of the goals, objectives and policies of SOAR, and is responsible for the coordination of all SOAR’s activities as a membership group and as task force of the RICADV. Responsibilities include campaign implementation, organizing and outreach, membership and leadership development and providing leadership in fulfilling SOAR’s mission. The SOAR coordinator is a full-time position, and reports to the director of communications and community engagement.


Specific responsibilities:

  • Work with SOAR members to develop and implement annual work plan integrating SOAR’s work with the strategic plan of the RICADV and ensure the work is aligned with the mission and values of SOAR, including developing and coordinating new projects from ideas to finished products. 
  • Monitor SOAR’s annual budget and compliance with grants.
  • Prepare, assist and support SOAR members in writing their stories for public speaking presentations.
  • Work with the RICADV communications team to identify spokespeople and support the team as they prepare for media appearances and during appearances.
  • Help identify policy priorities and work with RICADV policy and advocacy team to prepare SOAR members to engage in legislative advocacy efforts. 
  • Plan and oversee SOAR’s community organizing and outreach efforts, recruit members and develop systems for member retention and leadership development.
  • Implement administrative duties needed to maintain SOAR activities.
  • Assist in the development of and execute plans to increase the visibility of SOAR. 
  • Represent SOAR’s interests when SOAR members are not available on internal and external committees.
  • Foster partnerships with other RICADV teams, member agencies and community organizations to meet the SOAR mission.
  • Supervise SOAR interns and work collaboratively with the community engagement staff and other RICADV staff as needed. 
  • Increase the visibility of SOAR by planning and implementing communications projects including writing blog posts and working with communications staff to maintain the SOAR website and social media accounts. 
  • Coordinate and facilitate SOAR meetings, trainings, special events and outreach activities. 
  • Attend SOAR events, including presentations and media appearances.
  • Collect data, track grant report deadlines and prepare grant reports for submission.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Requirements: The SOAR coordinator must have a minimum of three years of nonprofit program coordination, community organizing, or domestic violence/sexual assault advocacy experience, strong written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and organizational skills, computer proficiency, ability to multitask, flexibility and a demonstrated knowledge of domestic violence and commitment to gender and racial equity. Bicultural/bilingual preferred.
