Development Director, Special Events

Position Summary:

The Director of Events is a detail oriented, well-organized development professional who is able to demonstrate leadership with a collaborative and results-oriented approach to drive the production of high quality fundraising events, including donor involvement, cultivation and stewardship.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conduct the full range of activities required to create, manage and implement fundraising events and logistics (Bike the Bridges, Polar Plunge, Golf Tournament, Bocce, third-party events, and more).
  • Responsible for managing revenue streams and achieving event revenue goals, to include overall event management: budgets, event logistics, volunteer management.
  • Responsible for peer-to-peer revenue generation in collaboration with the Marketing and Development teams to include: recruitment, retention, cultivation and management of teams, team captains and participants.
  • Lead the day of efforts for our corporate events, High Tech Challenge and Silicon Valley Bocce and manage live and silent auctions, including research, solicitation and implementation.
  • Conduct post-event debriefings to evaluate successful elements and challenges encountered, incorporating that information into the planning and execution of subsequent events.
  • Maintain high professional standards and procedures for production of events.
  • Collaborate with the SONC Development to prepare, submit and manage proposals for corporate sponsorships, in-kind sponsorships and vendor partnerships.
  • Develop, manage and execute fundraising and marketing strategies and content to recruit participation and promote awareness for events in collaboration with the Marketing Department.
  • Recruit, manage and provide support to volunteer event committees.
  • Collaborate with the development team, program staff and marketing team at Special Olympics Northern California to develop innovative fundraising and engagement opportunities and to deliver great experiences for our supporters.
  • Represent Special Olympics Northern California and its programs to the public by developing opportunities to speak to service clubs and other community groups.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

This position requires specific skills to be successful and to complement our existing team, including, but not limited to:

  • A passion for the Special Olympics mission.
  • A proven track record in developing and administering fundraising programs.
  • Minimum three years of specific event management experience and minimum three years successful fundraising experience with peer-to-peer fundraising preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write persuasively and strong presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational/priority management skills, including excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically the Microsoft Suite, including Teams, and excellent internet research skills.
  • Ability to successfully exercise independent judgment and discretion to reach your goals; able to effectively manage sometimes conflicting priorities in a multi-faceted, time-sensitive environment.
  • Computer proficiency including: Asana, Microsoft Office Suite and relational databases (Salesforce) as well as experience with fundraising platforms such as OneCause and BidPal.

This position is also eligible for an incentive bonus based on meeting fundraising goals for 2022.
