HEAF changes the lives of underserved young people beginning in middle school and continuing in college and beyond through a youth development approach that includes rigorous year-round academic enrichment, social and cultural exposure and constant individual attention.

Program Description:

Orientation: September 7th-8th, 2018

Fall Semester : September 22nd – December 15th , 2018

Class is held on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00 PM. Instructor is required to be at HEAF 4:00-6:30 PM or 30 minutes prep and clean up after class.

The art class should expose students to different mediums and art styles through hands on, interactive projects and activities. The class must culminate in a final project exhibition of student work. Projects can be either group or individual and should allow students to express a message that is important to them. The course instructor should utilize progressive didactic, coaching and discussion instruction models to engage students. Teacher will document and assess student progress. The ability to create a safe and rich learning environment is essential.

Instructor Requirements:

● B.A. in Fine Arts/Visual Arts/Performing Arts or related field preferred

● Minimum of 3 years art teaching experience in middle school, high school, or similar youth environments

● Strong artistic knowledge and background

● Excellent interpersonal skills

● Strong classroom management skills

● Willingness to promote HEAF educational and youth development philosophy

● Ability to work collaboratively with the HEAF staff

● Ability and willingness to commit to entire program
