About: Waub Ajijaak Press & Foundation is a non-profit publisher and we support the Native American community through scholarships and philanthropy.  Our focus is on Michigan, the Great Lakes, the Midwest, and the Anishinaabe Nation.

Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Grant Writing Consultant to support our 2024 funding efforts.  This project is budgeted for $75-$125 per hour, depending on the consultant’s experience.  Hours dedicated to the project are forecasted at 30 hours per month with flexibility based on the consultant’s schedule. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide grant application, letters of inquiry, and report writing support.
  • Conduct prospect research on foundations and other institutional donors.
  • Manage and update our grant and foundation databases.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to help manage the process of cultivating, stewarding, and developing new relationships with institutional funders.
  • Assist with general development management systems and updates as applicable. 
  • Maintain professional and confidential management of grant records, organizational documents, and other important data.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate must reside in Michigan at the time of starting the position. 
  • Must have an Associate’s degree.  Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience as a grant writer with skills in identifying, researching, and writing grants to foundations and/or other philanthropic organizations.
  • Proven track record writing successful proposals and reports for non-profit organizations, especially for Native American led non-profits.
  • Familiarity and/or experience working with the Native American community at the state, regional, and national levels. 
  • Expertise in effectively writing and communicating to align with Waub Ajijaak Press & Foundation’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Knowledgeable of different grant portals and various submission processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail, an unmistakable work ethic, as well as a keen eye for research and prospecting.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to positive relationship building, and creative diligence with the challenges of grant writing.
