SUBSTANCE ABUSE PEER RECOVERY SPECIALIST- BRONX CLINIC AND MANHATTAN CLINIC

 

 

Seeking (2) substance abuse peer recovery specialist (SAPRS) for our Bronx and Manhattan Clinic to conduct symptom assessment and provide supportive services on a schedule established by the clinics. Services to be provided on site or at the client’s place of residence. SAPRS will help the consumer to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior in regard to the abuse of substances by increasing the understanding of self and others. SAPRS will counsel consumers individually and in group sessions to assist the consumers in overcoming alcohol and drug dependency. Will refer the consumer to other support services as needed such as detox and other appropriate services. Conducts monitoring of urine testing, collecting urine, tracking urine tests results, and performing on site urine tests. Develops and maintains working relationship with alcohol and substance abuse detoxification, rehabilitation, and treatment centers. May formulate and conduct programs to promote prevention of alcohol and substance abuse. May provide training to other staff or be directly involved in counseling or groups. May administer urinalysis.


The position requires at the minimum a high school diploma but a college degree is preferred. Must have 3 years’ experience minimum in integrated mental health and substance abuse assessment and treatment, motivational interviewing techniques and stage-wise treatment. CASAC or CASAC-T and acquisition of full CASAC credential within one year of appointment to position. 

Knowledge of the principles and practices of harm reduction.
