The nation’s first charter school support organization, the Charter Schools Development Center (CSDC) remains a leading resource center for charter schools. CSDC’s leadership trainings, publications, and consulting services offer our clients the experience and knowledge of over 20 years of charter school start-up, operational support, and advocacy. We are recognized as the leading experts in charter school law and policy, finance, school design, charter authorizing, governance, and personnel. Our staff members have assisted with the drafting of the charter laws in over 25 states across the country and play a prominent role in the decision making of school reform policy at both the state and national level.


We have worked with hundreds of charter school development groups with the start-up of their charter schools and each year assist the hundreds of CSDC school members with their ongoing operations. We frequently conduct school performance evaluations for charter schools and charter authorizers and provide comprehensive trainings for school leaders and school boards who are seeking to maximize the performance of their schools. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Experience with developing and implementing various marketing strategies (print, email, website, social media, strategic partnerships, etc.). Ability to develop and draft compelling marketing language. Experience increasing brand awareness for an organization, product line or service area. Experience in sales, public relations, and outreach. Experience working with databases, managing data and generating accurate reports (SalesForce preferred). Familiarity with and/or experience in charter schools. 


Must be detail-oriented, organized, adaptable, and able to prioritize details in a multi-task environment. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills (on the phone and in person). Must be able to complete projects, meet deadlines, and work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated experience researching and gathering data and producing data reports. 


Excellent writing skills, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation with the ability to write and edit materials for public distribution. Ability to coordinate many and various activities and remain aware of how changes in some technical systems may affect others. Experience with email marketing programs, such as MailChimp. Expertise in the use of software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to manage own time to accomplish tasks and larger projects.


PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS


Knowledge of charter school operations. Experience with website maintenance and development. Experience in designing marketing materials using a variety of software programs, including: InDesign, Flash, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Experience in developing press-ready publishing files and management of cost-effective printing and mailing activities. Experience with managing and/or developing membership-based programs. 



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations of CSDC, this position develops and implements a variety of marketing and communications strategies. This position receives periodic work direction from other staff and consultants at CSDC. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:


  1. Marketing: Increase brand awareness and develop and implement marketing strategies for CSDC’s products and services, including CSDC membership, trainings, events, and consulting services. Lead all marketing and advertising efforts. Craft meaningful, targeted marketing communications and materials. Develop and implement strategies to increase engagement across multiple market segments in CSDC trainings, events, membership and other core services. Develop and manage an annual plan of innovative, coordinated CSDC marketing efforts, addressing all service areas, target audiences, growth areas, and other key marketing considerations. Coordinate and compose organization-wide marketing efforts across various media including website, email, social media, print and phone-based efforts.
  2. Communications: Responsible for ensuring CSDC’s brand, policy work, research, and analysis are effectively communicated to the charter school community. Continually expand and improve means by which CSDC communicates with members and non-members. Leverage and adapt to emerging technologies in order to ensure CSDC uses the most effective and efficient communication strategies, including website, email, social media, and other tools. Write, edit, and distribute various internal and external correspondence.
  3. Website Management: Continually assess and develop the CSDC website to identify necessary improvements, including integration with other systems and the creation of new web-based tools and resources. Develop and implement short and long term website update plans, including regular update activities and reporting.
  4. CSDC Membership: Work with Director of Operations and Membership Coordinator to improve and expand program package. Work with Membership Coordinator to develop outreach program to new and existing members. Drive vision and guide Membership Coordinator in developing and continually improving CSDC’s membership program, renewal and new member onboarding processes. Monitor and report on a weekly basis, all member communications and renewal activity to ensure all member renewals are processed accurately and on-time. Lead the implementation of fully automated renewal, onboarding and other member processes. Communicate over the phone and email with member schools, conference exhibitors and attendees, and other CSDC associates.
  5. Contacts/Client Data Management: Oversee the management and development of CSDC’s database of contacts and organizations. Develop and oversee an annual update plan and coordinate with Membership Coordinator and other CSDC Support Staff to ensure schools, data, and contacts in database are accurate and continually updated. Identify database improvements and lead projects such as the integration of Salesforce with applications such as Formstack, and with our websites.
  6. Events and Trainings Support: Lead and implement marketing and website needs for CSDC’s events and trainings. Develop marketing materials, promotions and advertising to attendees, exhibitors, sponsors and other stakeholders. Support conference website setup and updates. Develop and update CSDC marketing collateral needed prior to and on-site at the event. Assist with event planning, on-site setup, and post-event evaluation. Assist with communications with conference sponsors, exhibitors, presenters and attendees.
  7. Occasional travel required to provide support during events, trainings, workshops and other functions.
  8. Must be able to listen and respond to clients clearly and professionally both over the phone and in-person.
  9. Must be able to read, comprehend, and interpret charts, graphs, and various documents as well as hand-written correspondence.
  10. Occasional moderate to heavy lifting (e.g., boxes of printed materials, audio-visual equipment, etc.).
  11. Other duties as assigned.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: The position is located at CSDC’s main office in Sacramento. This is an at-will, exempt, full-time, benefited position. Continued employment in this position is dependent upon funding and the mutual consent of CSDC and the employee, and either CSDC or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
