About Us

Partners for Sacred Places is the only national, non-sectarian, non-profit organization in the United States devoted to helping congregations and their communities preserve, sustain, and actively use older and historic sacred places. Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Philadelphia, with offices and staff in the Midwest and South, Partners continues to serve a diverse range of faith communities, stakeholders, and civic institutions across the nation.

Partners for Sacred Places embraces an inter-disciplinary approach to sustain America’s older houses of worship as important and irreplaceable community assets, from a traditional core in historic preservation and community development to arts, philanthropy, advocacy, and research that is reflected in an astounding range of activity. Partners’ comprehensive and cutting-edge work also includes earned income through a growing portfolio of consulting services that reflect our mission and civic-value based practice. These services include community-engagement with civic leaders and citizens, planning around space-use and design, and a powerful community-based model for capital fundraising for historic houses of worship.
