The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank is comprised of a dedicated team of approximately 210 staff working collaboratively to provide close to 50 million pounds of food to over 210,000 people in the Bay Area – a region where 1 in 4 people are at risk of hunger. Join our friendly, collaborative and hardworking Development team. We’re looking for a talented fundraising professional to fill the position of Development Campaign Manager and help lead the effort to raise funds from a large pool of individual donors giving under $10,000 annually. 

POSITION PURPOSE

The Development Campaign Manager is an independent and strategic individual who will manage and execute our direct mail fundraising campaigns, manage an Annual Fund Coordinator focused on Donor Services data processes, and support the Director of Annual Fund (DAF) in setting budgets and project management workflows. They will work collaboratively with the DAF and Digital Fundraising Manager (DFM) to oversee the coordination of all campaigns and donor retention strategies and ensure the overall success of the Development team, with an annual revenue goal of $25.9 million. They will be a data-driven fundraiser with the ability to lead the creation of inspiring campaigns. We’re not afraid to be trendsetters. We need your vision. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • In collaboration with the DAF and DFM, set strategy and creative direction for the Annual Fund program, helping the team improve retention and acquisition rates to meet our fundraising goals.
  • Manage the Annual Fund Coordinator, Donor Data, with an eye toward identifying process enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy of Annual Fund data projects.
  • Execute or lead execution of offline Annual Fund fundraising activities, including direct mail, telephone fundraising, and new revenue channels, looking for opportunities to experiment where possible.
  • Support the DAF in maintaining the annual revenue and expense budget for the Annual Fund.
  • Own the development of a cross-channel production calendar with input from the DFM, facilitating the content review process and ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Manage the use of the team’s project management software, developing clear documentation and training materials, performing regular audits to ensure tasks are properly organized and tagged, and looking for ways to make better use of the tool.
  • Develop thoughtful strategies for offline stewardship and donor retention, implementing long-term experiments and better tracking measures to improve our understanding of what stewardship activities have the best ROI.
  • Manage data requests for offline campaigns, reviewing mailing lists, recognition lists, and financial reports for accuracy.
  • Act as the primary liaison with outside vendors (such as mailhouses, designers, and copywriters) and look for ways to improve the output of these relationships. 
  • Produce high level, regular reports of campaign performance to help the team learn and track trends with the support of the Development Operations team.
  • Lead donor retention for the Food Bank’s Monthly Giving Circle program, working with the DFM and AFCs to improve manual data workflows and develop a consistent stewardship strategy.
  • In close collaboration with the Individual Giving Officer, Midlevel and Director of Development Operations, with support from the DAF and Leadership Gifts Team, lead the strategy for cultivating and upgrading Midlevel donors ($1,000 - $9,999)..
  • Support the DAF, DFM, and Marketing and Communications team in developing and communicating consistent and compelling messaging about the Food Bank and its work for stakeholders, supporters, and the wider community.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 4 years of nonprofit fundraising and/or campaign experience.
  • Proven track record managing successful Direct Mail campaigns.
  •  Excellent team and/or vendor management skills.
  • Ability to craft creative, mission-driven content that motivates donors to give. 
  • Openness to new ideas and their implementation. 
  • Experience working with CRM tools, preferably Raiser’s Edge.
  • Strong project management skills; experience with PM tools like Asana, Monday, Basecamp, etc are a plus.
  • Detail oriented; able to complete complex projects accurately with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of current nonprofit fundraising best practices.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability and personality to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to react to changing situations appropriately, showing adaptability to quickly change tactics as necessary to improve revenue results.

COMMUNICATION AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of complex intellectual and practical problems.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY: Ability to perform advanced math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.

LANGUAGE ABILITY: Fluency in English. Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing.
