Description

Education nonprofit Turning the Page seeks a part-time (~3 days per week) employee to join our Carpe Librum Associates team. Turning the Page raises funds for our parent engagement programs in D.C. public schools by collecting thousands of gently used book, CD, and DVD donations each month and then selling these donations both online and at physical locations such as our downtown used bookstore Carpe Librum, located in Union Station as well as our new location opening on 21st & L street with additional locations opening soon. The duties of this part-time position include working in our retail used bookstore and/or additional "pop-up" bookstores around DC shelving books, assisting customers, etc.

Position is roughly 24 hours per week (3 days per week). Must be able to work three full days per workweek, and with weekend and evening availability preferred. Weekday shifts are typically 10:45am - 7:30pm, however flexibility is appreciated as “pop-up” store hours differ. Position pays $12.50/hour.

Must be organized, responsible, detail oriented, and able to lift boxes of books weighing 30 pounds every day. Typically only one staff member works at the bookstore at one time, so being able to work well independently is important. Good communication is also key, as we use our bookstore to inform the public about Turning the Page's nonprofit work as well. A general love and knowledge of books and great people skills are big pluses!
