AGENCY OVERVIEW:

The Bay Area Crisis Nursery (BACN) is a small nonprofit located in the East Bay. For 40 years, we have provided a safe place for children to stay while their families are experiencing a crisis. Our families are struggling with homelessness, domestic violence, mental and physical health issues, stress, and living in poverty. This past year, we responded to the pandemic by opening a food and diaper pantry and expanding our program to offer 60 days of free emergency childcare. We provide essential safety net services for children ages 0-5 and their families.

SUMMARY:

As a member of the Bay Area Crisis Nursery’s (BACN’s) development team, the Individual Giving & Events Manager plays a critical role in increasing individual donor support and managing donor cultivation and fundraising events. The Individual Giving Manager will be responsible for cultivating, developing, and overseeing relationships with existing donors and new prospects, focusing on securing gifts of $1,000 plus from individuals. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced development professional to take their experience to the next level while working and learning closely with an Executive Director who has over 20 years of fundraising experience.

The Individual Giving Manager reports to the Executive Director and provides direct support for all individual giving initiatives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set, manage, and meet aggressive targets for annual gifts including acquisition, annual gift upgrades, and develop an effective pipeline to the major gifts program.
  • Cultivate donors through the giving lifecycle to increase monthly and planned giving.
  • Manage, produce, coordinate, and implement appeals for direct mail, email, and other digital and social media campaigns.
  • Manage the cultivation and solicitation goals and plans for individual giving.
  • Support the production of public relations materials including press releases, blog posts, the annual report, and newsletters.
  • Manage database and oversee gift administration and acknowledgement with the Development Associate.
  • Engage the management team and board of directors in major donor outreach.
  • Responsible for all aspects of event planning including volunteer engagement, budget management, sponsorships, logistics, vendors, pre and post event management and evaluation.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of strategies and report monthly on department’s key performance indicators, ensuring that goals are met. Adjust strategies as needed.
  • Provide input for the department's annual operating budget.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This job requires the supervision of volunteers.
  • Works collaboratively with the Development Associate.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Three years of fundraising experience with a focus on individual giving, event planning a plus.
  • Must be extremely well-organized with the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Must be a talented writer with the ability to create powerful campaigns that engage donors and drive them to give. 
  • Proficiency in the use of donor CRM (preferably Neon), Microsoft Suite, MailChimp, social media (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn), Google applications.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Prioritizes tasks in a fast-paced setting with a can do, positive attitude.
  • Valid driver’s license; minimal travel is required for this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Frequently required to sit.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
  • The employee must occasionally lift or move more than 20 pounds.
