The YESPhilly Accelerated High School is a small school serving youth who have previously dropped out of or been pushed out of Philadelphia area Public Schools. YESPhilly has a strong alternative vision for education that engages out-of-school and otherwise disengaged youth in a dynamic school culture that meets students where they are and inspires students to have a meaningful impact on their community and the world. We are looking for an engaging, passionate and resourceful teacher to add to our team 2019-2020.

Our teachers must be high-energy individuals with in-depth knowledge of engaging at-risk urban youth. The ideal candidate will deliver rigorous, learner-centered lessons that support the wide variety of students within the classroom, and are aligned to Pennsylvania standards. They must be able to teach our students knowledge and skills, to inspire their passion, and to cultivate the lifelong habits our students need to achieve their goals and positively influence their community.

Our teachers use the Summit Learning system, a personalized learning program, to develop curriculum and project-based learning outcomes that use a variety of instructional strategies. They use formative and summative assessments that result in deeper learning and engaged self-directed learners. Teachers work collaboratively across the curriculum in a tight-knit teaching team. They implement classroom management techniques to create a safe and supportive classroom environment that demands the best quality work from all students, with the support of administrative staff. Teachers participate in regular professional learning communities, collaborate professionally with other staff, and connect with parents and community members to support student growth.  Qualifications

●      Bachelor’s degree and requisite teaching certification

●      Demonstrated expertise in subject area

●      Successful teaching experience in an urban middle or high school or other setting serving under-resourced youth

●      Belief that all students should be held to rigorous standards

●      Openness to restorative and collaborative problem-solving

●      Outstanding instructional skills, including the ability to motivate and challenge students

●      Ability to adjust instructional strategies in order to reach individual student and school-wide goals, especially in an alternative education context

●      Eagerness to creatively and thoughtfully engage students in ways that connect to their communities and the world including poetry, spoken word, and other creative cultural connections

●      Proficiency with blended learning, cloud-based systems (Google Drive), and ability to navigate online learning platforms.

●      Drive for professional development, growth, and improvement of teaching craft
