Description

Center for Safety & Change is currently seeking a full-time 35-hours per week Bi-lingual Advocate to work with victims/survivors of domestic violence. This is a full-time position which requires at least one evening and the ability to work flexible hours when needed. This is a direct service position that requires understanding of victim advocacy, law, police procedures, and criminal justice related to domestic violence. Center for Safety & Change is a not for profit, equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse, multi-cultural work environment. All are encouraged to apply.


Some responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to hotline calls and walk-ins.
  • Provide crisis intervention, individual counseling, assessment of client needs, information and referrals, group counseling, and promote community awareness of services.
  • Assist victims in creating and implementing safety plans.
  • Provide advocacy and accompaniment to hospital, D.A.’s office, courts and social service agencies.
  • Assist victims/survivors in accessing and completing Office of Victims of Services (OVS) applications.
  • Administer Danger Assessment tool to victims.
  • Work in collaboration with inter-departmental and external entities.
  • Provide transportation.
  • Ability to collect and maintain case outcomes, record keeping and provide grant related reports.
  • Provide timely responses to correspondence.
  • Attend trainings on domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and other crimes.


Position Requirements:

  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Possess strong communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, crisis oriented environment: assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice system and courts.
  • Requires flexible hours including some early mornings and a minimum of one evening per week.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, navigate stairs, and periods of sitting, standing and walking required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology or related field a plus but not required, or 3+ years of experience within the criminal justice system/ working with victims of crime in a multidisciplinary setting or related field preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking candidates a must.
  • Valid driver’s license and own transportation a must.
