The purpose of this position is to provide program leadership over the SPCDC Food Pantry, a 48 year-old community pantry in the City of Paterson, NJ. The SPCDC Food Pantry provides supplemental food assistance to individuals and families who are unable to financially meet their daily nutritional requirements. Our ultimate goal is to develop self-sufficiency in our clients. Our food assistance program is intended as a "hand-up" and not a "handout" in helping individuals and families achieve greater stability in their lives. The SPCDC Food Pantry serves on average 2,000 individuals and families annually.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising Pantry staff and volunteers (3 to 12 persons)
  • Coordinating all Pantry food services including perishable and non-perishable items
  • Determining and managing all Pantry food delivery and pick-up activities
  • Responsible for proper and accurate budgeting and maintenance of inventory
  • Compiling statistics to complete daily and monthly reports
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly Pantry environment
  • Any other food or Pantry special projects, as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with significant experience in food service management, logistics and operations
  • Previous warehouse and food industry experience a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and communication skills (frequent contact with agency volunteers and vendors)
  • Computer proficiency skills (reporting and data tracking done through agency computer data system)
  • Team player, proactive, able to work independently
  • Physically fit (job requires assisting with the loading and unloading of cargo vehicles)
  • Understanding of socially relevant issues impacting low-income urban communities preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License Required
  • Full-time Equivalent (Exempt), Flexibility with schedule based on donation pick-up schedules
