Position Summary

The Evaluation Specialist is primarily responsible for managing Umoja’s evaluation data collection and reporting systems. This includes coordinating and managing all data collection, maintaining tracking systems, data management, data quality, and data reporting in Umoja’s database system. The Evaluation Specialist position is a new position that must balance multiple projects and requests in an ever-changing nonprofit environment, as well as be willing and able to create new tracking and reporting systems. This position reports to the Director of Learning and Impact.

Status and Location

This is an exempt, full-time employee position. The Evaluation Specialist will work from the Umoja Main Office during work hours, Monday through Friday. Occasional travel will be required to program sites throughout the Chicago Metro Area.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and organize all data collection instruments
  • Manage timely implementation of data collection instruments and data tracking systems, including cleaning of data lists, creating data files for survey implementation, and managing response rates
  • Maintain tracking systems of metrics and outcomes across programs, schools, and districts
  • Coordinate and oversee data quality of Salesforce CRM, including ongoing review of missing data, monthly review of implementation data to ensure accurate data entry, and data uploads
  • Quarterly analysis of postsecondary information to ensure data quality
  • Provide Development Department timely data for grant reports
  • Supervise evaluation data entry staff and other interns, as needed
  • Effectively communicate program staff’s data collection timelines
  • Responsible for yearly college enrollment and persistence analysis
  • Identify and create new processes to ensure program staff’s effective utilization of Salesforce
  • Collaborate with Director of Learning and Impact to innovate and improve evaluation processes and data utilization, including (but not limited to) Salesforce data management and reporting, data collection instruments, organizational-wide communication of data, revisions to logic models, and utilization of data for decision-making
  • Assist Director of Learning and Impact in the planning and co-facilitation of evaluation-based meetings
  • Other duties as needed to ensure effective running of the development and evaluation department

Qualifications: Required

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) from a four-year college or university – Master’s Degree preferred
  • A minimum of two years of experience managing data or evaluation projects
  • Intermediate experience with Excel (knowledge of basic data management functions, VLOOKUP, Pivot tables, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of quantitative analysis and qualitative research
  • Experience with, or knowledge of, program evaluation
  • Ability to multi-task to work on multiple projects with multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrated skill in time management and project management
  • Demonstrated skill of problem-solving to identify new approaches and creative solutions
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to develop relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated writing, communication and analytical skills
  • Passion for Umoja’s mission, vision, and values

Qualifications: Preferred

  • Experience in, and willingness to learn, Salesforce (Non-Profit Success Pack) 
  • Experience in, and willingness to learn, about Umoja’s specific program areas (College and Career Readiness, Social-Emotional Learning and Restorative Justice)
  • Experience working in a nonprofit managing evaluation and data systems
  • Experience leading and facilitating groups discussions about understanding and utilizing data to inform learning and action
