Position Title: NACPM Office Manager

Supervisor: Mary Lawlor, Executive Director, NACPM

Hours: 20 hours/week

Hourly Rate: $25.00

Position Dates: This position begins September 17.

Training with the current office manager begins as soon as possible.

Physical location: Majority of the work is performed virtually. Candidate must live on the Eastern U.S. corridor between Washington, DC, and Maine or in adjacent states to be available for in-person training at the start of the position and for occasional in-person work meetings with the Executive Director who is located at this time in Vermont.

Travel: All travel expenses necessary for the position are paid

Tools & Materials: Expenses for all necessary materials must be pre-approved and are paid; work computer and cell phone service for purposes of work are provided

Vacation: Two weeks paid vacation/year

Position Overview: NACPM seeks a self-starting, energetic, and experienced person to be responsible for managing the day-to-day office operations of our small organization. The Office Manager will be supervised by and work closely with the Executive Director. This position

provides an opportunity to support a small mission-driven, values-oriented organization at a critical stage of development.

Location: NACPM has no physical office location and the majority of the work for this position is done virtually, although the Office Manager attends and supports two three-day in-person Leadership Team meetings each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. These meetings are held in various locations, with at least one meeting a year in Washington, DC, and at times in other locations in the United States. Candidate must live on the Eastern U.S. corridor between Washington, DC, and Maine or in adjacent states to enable periodic, in-person work sessions with the Executive Director. Work hours are flexible, although daytime availability is necessary; some attendance at pre-scheduled monthly meetings with members of NACPM’s leadership team is required. The Office Manager attends, takes minutes, and supports a once-a-month evening (EST) Leadership Team meeting.

The National Association of Certified Professional Midwives is a small, mission-driven, values-based membership organization representing Certified Professional Midwives (CPM) in the United States. CPMs, a rapidly growing segment of the midwifery profession, are nationally credentialed, community-based primary perinatal care providers trained to offer high-quality evidence-based care to people during the childbearing year in homes and free-standing birth centers, incorporating best practices to foster normal physiologic birth. CPMs provide unique and critical access to physiologic birth in the U.S., profoundly benefitting childbearing people and their babies. Founded in 2001, NACPM has adopted a policy agenda for promoting access to and integration of CPMs into the birth care system in the U.S., addressing barriers to practice; supporting reimbursement and the licensing of CPMs in all 50 states, DC and the U.S. territories; promoting equity and social justice in midwifery and in birth; promoting quality care through clinical practice resources; and engaging in state and federal advocacy to increase childbearing people’s access to quality care and to eliminate birth outcome inequities and disparities. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Executive Director with general office operations, including scheduling, maintaining online systems, acting as a point of contact for the organization, and general correspondence
  • Provide assistance to the Board in preparing for monthly meetings as needed, keep minutes, follow-up on meeting tasks and details, and help to facilitate the work of the Board, volunteers, teams and projects
  • Support NACPM’s two in-person Leadership Team meetings each year, including planning and logistics, keeping minutes, and follow-up on meeting tasks and details
  • Provide support to the Chapters Program Manager, and to the NACPM Chapters as needed
  • Managing financial tasks including bill payment, check deposits, financial recording, tax payments, coordinating tax reporting with the accountant, and other financial support to the Treasurer, Executive Director and Finance Team
  • Provide assistance to the Executive Director and Board on key projects and teams as needed
  • Coordinate, design, and provide logistical support for communications, including Constant Contact alerts, newsletters and other materials
  • Assist with development and support of professional development offerings, primarily webinars
  • Assist with social media/networking for NACPM
  • Coordinate website updates/functions with NACPM’s web developer or manager
  • Assist the Executive Director and the Board with membership development tasks

Essential Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in office management
  • Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks On-Line and Microsoft office suite, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe, Constant Contact
  • Proficiency in digital communication and office management and workflow technologies, such as Basecamp, Dropbox, Zoom, Google Docs, Survey Monkey, etc.
  • Social media proficiency
  • Experience working with and managing databases (experience with Wild Apricot a plus
  • Website support

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working virtually
  • Familiarity with maternal/child health, U.S. birth care systems, and/or midwives
