The Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (ICAAP) is seeking candidates for a key member of our leadership team.  The Program Director will lead grant and contract-funded work to improve immunization rates for children in Illinois and the Chicago area through education and support of pediatric healthcare providers, health systems, health departments, and other groups and organizations that reach children and families across Illinois.  This position will serve as the primary contact and leader of immunizations education and policy including building partnerships needed to increase vaccination rates in Illinois.  The director will work with pediatricians, family physicians, and other stakeholders in developing a robust immunization program and lead the organization in reducing disparities and improving immunization rates for children and families throughout Illinois.

Desired candidates will enjoy working in a fast-paced, diverse environment with multiple competing priorities while demonstrating a passion to drive and improve health outcomes in Illinois. The director will not only work to meet the needs of current Chapter funding but will also develop relationships with a variety of stakeholders to grow our immunizations program and stabilize funding for the program and organization.


ICAAP is a 501c3 organization that seeks to promote and advocate for optimal child, youth, and family well-being, and access to quality healthcare.  Consisting of 2100 members across Illinois, ICAAP works to improve child and family health through the development of education to meet the needs of pediatric healthcare providers, connecting pediatricians to resources in their community, and advocating for policy changes to address the needs of children, families, and health care providers.

Primary duties of the Program Director include but are not limited to:

  • Serving as a key member in the ICAAP leadership team –actively participating in Board and Staff meetings and setting the broader strategic direction for the organization.
  • Managing all grant deliverables and budgets including but not limited to development of professional education, securing of Continuing Medical Education (CME) and other professional education credits, and use of online education platforms such as Zoom, and a Moodle-based learning management system.
  • Developing education materials for healthcare providers including newsletter articles, materials for use in practices, and outreach on social media platforms.
  • Recruiting and managing a diverse group of ICAAP members, experts, and organizations to serve as volunteers, presenters, and participants in the immunizations program including management of the ICAAP Committee on Immunizations
  • Securing funding for activities including development, writing, and responding to requests for proposals and other funding opportunities in partnership with pediatrician leaders and other partners.
  • Supervising a diverse team of staff and related consultants and subcontractors needed to accomplish goals and meet grant and contract objectives and deliverables.
  • Serving as a primary point of contact for the immunizations program including representing ICAAP and its members in a variety of settings such as with the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Chicago Department of Public Health, immunization stakeholders, community organizations, funders, healthcare organizations, and advocacy groups. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience in working in public health, child health, and/or health care grant administration. 
  • Must have experience in grant writing and management including development and execution of proposals and scopes of work. Specific experience in government grants and contracts desired.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities and be skilled in project management.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders to develop consensus and develop new relationships to meet the mission of the organization.
  • Knowledge of continuing medical education, quality improvement, public health, immunizations, and/or physicians’ practices as well as experience in working with physicians or healthcare professionals desired.
