Job Title:  Education Coordinator

Reports to:  Director of Education Programs

Status:  Full-Time (37.5 hours a week)

Location:  Providence and Woonsocket, with some travel required

Compensation:  $19 to $21 an hour, including full benefits (health/dental insurance, paid time off, a 401(k) plan, an Employee Assistance Plan, and training opportunities)

Position Summary:  Sojourner House is a non-profit victim services organization that provides crisis intervention services, housing, shelter, and supportive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.  Sojourner House also aims to break the cycle of violence and operates an educational program to provide training to schools, community groups, and youth.  The Education Coordinator will be a full-time member of the Education team and will provide education on dating violence, sexual assault, sex education, and/or related topics to youth and the community through outreach and organized school-based programming. The Coordinator will present educational workshops on domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and related issues victims and survivors face when experiencing abuse.  The Coordinator will also network with community-based organizations and schools through outreach and relationship building. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide dating violence information to youth in Rhode Island through outreach initiatives and presentations. 

2. Develop and maintain dating violence and prevention curricula and materials for all education levels; deliver and coordinate presentations using materials and innovative techniques as necessary.  Have familiarity with virtual online platforms and in- person workshops. 

3. Work to identify new educational sites for programming throughout Rhode Island.  Cultivate relationships with existing education sites. 

4. Develop culturally and linguistically age-appropriate educational materials for distribution, including brochures and educational curricula. 

5. Provide domestic violence, sexual assault, sex education, LGBTQ+ partner violence, and HIV/AIDS/STI information to the Rhode Island community through outreach initiatives and presentations.

6. Provide education and training to law enforcement as requested, and be willing to undergo a certification process in order to train law enforcement. 

7. Become a Qualified Professional Test Counselor (QPTC) and administer oral HIV tests.

8. Develop culturally appropriate outreach educational materials for distribution.

9. Incorporate HIV prevention and educational components into Sojourner House programs. 

10.  Coordinate data related to HIV testing and educational presentations, and complete relevant program grant reports as needed. 

11. Assist in the development and implementation of local public awareness activities/events concerning Sojourner House's programming. 

12. Help with the promotion of sex education initiatives .

13. Attend statewide coalition meetings on issues related to HIV, sexual health, sex education, teen dating violence, and LGBTQ issues. 

14. Participate in the orientation and training of peer educators, volunteers, and interns. Supervise volunteers/interns as needed. 

15. Assist with outreach to the community about resources available for those experiencing partner or intimate partner violence.

16. Assist in answering crisis calls when covering the Drop In Center on specific shifts.

17. Provide office support as needed. 

18. Collect data relevant to the educational programs and provide monthly statistical information as needed.

19. Assist educational professionals, healthcare professionals, and community member agencies in domestic violence/sexual assault prevention training techniques on request.

20. Support school staff and administration on policies regarding how to best serve teen clients.  Provide technical assistance and training as needed.

21. Other duties as directed by Sojourner House Management or as required.

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred. 

2. Two to three years in human services or education. 

3. Demonstrated experience in delivering presentations and/or educational trainings.

4. Domestic abuse/sexual assault related experience preferred.

5. Familiarity with sexual health/HIV related issues.

6. QPTC certification (or willingness to become certified upon hire).

7. Certification in the WYMAN – Teen Outreach Program, or willingness to become certified upon hire.

8.  Demonstrated experience working with youth in educational and/or community-based settings.

Special Skills:

1.  Must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

2.  Must have familiarity with and a comfort in delivering presentations to large groups.

3.  Fluency in Spanish is required. 

4. Able to maintain a flexible schedule (some evening and weekend hours may be necessary due to the scheduling of educational presentations)

5.  Able to communicate with professionals and different educational and community groups.


6.  Maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
