Who We Are:

Arizona Advocacy Foundation (AZAF) and our sister organization Arizona Advocacy Network (AZAN) are devoted to defending and deepening Arizona’s commitment to democracy. We believe the cornerstones of a vibrant democracy are co-governance, where people in community have a say in what happens in our communities, following the leadership of those most directly impacted as they are the closest to the solutions, a clear intersectional power analysis that notes that abolition is the only option given the interlocked nature of systems of oppression, and the centering Black Joy and Liberation because it is a mandate - to share and disrupt the placement of the weight of this world. We provide a consistent voice in defense of democracy within state structures, with elections officials, and in our communities.

We believe in a truly democratic Arizona, where our communities and community members are honored, and have influence and power to shape our future and heal our past.

We are using an Electoral Justice framework defined by the Movement for Black Lives, because we understand that there are many barriers that are intentionally and carelessly imposed to disenfranchise communities, and that bar communities from participating in democratic processes.

Strong applicants will have a demonstrated commitment to equity. AZAN/F encourages applications from all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, marital status, citizenship, disability, veteran status, and record of arrest or conviction. People with personal experience with the criminal justice system, including people who are formerly incarcerated or have a close family experience with incarceration, are highly encouraged to apply for this position.
