Work Schedule: Full Time/ Seasonal/ Monday – Friday, 8:30am-5pm

Since 1971, Hopelink has served homeless and low-income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities in the north and east King County, WA. With service centers in Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, Shoreline and Sno-Valley (Carnation), we are the largest nonprofit organization in the area. Hopelink programs and services focus on five key areas: food, financial assistance, housing & family development, adult education & employment and transportation/mobility. Programs are aimed at helping people achieve stability, and helping them gain the skills and knowledge they need to exit poverty for good.


Summary: The Eligibility and Resource Specialist (ERS) meets with a high volume of clients one-on-one, determines client eligibility, and enrolls clients to receive Energy Assistance grants. ERS staff are responsible for entering data accurately and efficiently into our Client Track database. They provide excellent customer service to all who walk through the door and respond promptly to phone and e-mail inquiries. The Energy Program is very fast paced and attention to detail is crucial. This position requires the ability to multi-task, stay calm under pressure and deescalate issues when necessary. ERS must be comfortable working with families and individuals that may be in crisis and/or suffer from mental illness.


This position is a short-term seasonal position. Candidates must be available to work at least until the end of December. This position gives you an opportunity to learn more about Hopelink and future full time job options.


Essential Functions:

  • Completes intake appointments to determine eligibility for energy assistance grants
  • Ability to manage full schedule with up to 12 client appointments each day while processing incoming documentation for pending applications
  • Practices excellent time management and organizational skills in order to meet application deadlines for contractual compliance
  • Enforces agency and program eligibility requirements and policies. Energy Program policies are complex and inflexible
  • Maintains and updates electronic client information while ensuring accurate and timely data entry
  • Organizes and compiles client paper applications and confirms all required documentation is present
  • Corrects electronic and paper client files in the case of an error
  • Ensures client information is kept confidential
  • Develops and maintains a strong knowledge of available services both within Hopelink and in the larger community in order to provide referrals and resources to clients who are seeking services
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with fellow staff, vendors, donors, volunteers and other agencies
  • Performs general office duties such as typing, filing, copying, faxing, answering a multi-line telephone, and routing calls
  • Responds to all inquires in a friendly manner within 24 hours
  • Regular, daily attendance and punctuality is essential to our business and to this position

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or AA degree OR 2 years of relevant work experience or customer service experience
  • Intermediate level proficiency in MS Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and data systems
  • Exceptional verbal, written and organizational skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and effective decision-making skills to accomplish goals and creatively problem-solve issues
  • Ability to work effectively with and provide services to a diverse population
  • Ability to work at various Hopelink Centers as needed



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years experience working with low-income families
  • Knowledge of the social service network throughout King County, as well as immediate community area helpful
  • Bi-lingual skills in Spanish, Russian, Farsi, or Cantonese

·       Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. 

·       The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.


Licenses, Certificates and other requirements:

  • Must have reliable personal transportation in order to adhere to attendance expectations.
  • Must pass criminal background check through the Washington State Patrol.
