Steps to Success (STS), a comprehensive school success and college readiness program, is hiring a Director for its after-school academic support and enrichment program, Teen Advantage, at the Coolidge Corner School in Brookline.

We seek a strong, positive, energetic, and well-organized leader who will make an excellent role model for young people and lead in the cultivation of a program that works to expose our students to a variety of high quality enrichment experiences.

AHU serves about 10 students in grades 7 and 8. The program runs 1.5 hours 1 day per week, from 3:40-5:10pm on Tuesdays.  Directors are also paid for 3 additional hours of planning/administrative time per week. *There may be  an option to expand and work more hours, with the same group of students, by working as part of the PSB HW center as well.  

The TA Director is a part time position (4.5 hours/week, including planning time). Prospective candidates will need to be available for employment starting September 24, 2018 through June 14, 2019.

Program Objectives

As a result of having a wider breadth of experience in regards to enrichment activities…

  • Students will develop improved self efficacy
  • Students will develop skill sets beyond those learned during the school day.
  • Students will develop better teamwork skills


  1. Oversee AHU staff, which may include enrichment instructors, college and/or AmeriCorps interns, and others.
  2. Ensure all enrichment activities/units include opportunities for improvement in the following Social Emotional Learning skills: self-efficacy and teamwork.  
  3. Ensure all enrichment units include a culminating product or demonstration involving skills learned during that enrichment
  4. Design and implement behavior management systems and develop strong routines and procedures for program.
  5. Work with the STS Director of Programs, and PSB STS Advisor, to recruit and maintain an enrollment of approximately 10 participants over the course of the school year.
  6. Manage administrative duties such as daily attendance, newsletters, family nights, tracking related to achievement of program objectives/outcomes, and supervision of AHU staff.
  7. Communicate regularly with school staff & parents about student progress and program updates.


  • Experienced youth development worker with a minimum of 3 years experience in diverse classrooms, after-school, camp and/or residential settings. Teaching certificate and/or degree in related field strongly preferred but not required.
  • Experience tracking and utilizing a data-driven approach.  Experience working with SEL skills, frameworks, and tracking tools (specifically ACT or SAYO) is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Flexibility and creativity in relating to students in an after-school setting, while consistently demonstrating strong behavior management skills at the same time, is essential.
  • Ability to engage in program leadership as well as to interact effectively with after school colleagues, school day staff and administrators, parents,  and community partners is required.

Additional Information

  • 4.5 hrs/week during the academic school year (which includes 3 hours of planning time).
  • Competitive, hourly, salary starting in the high-twenties/hour.
  • Additional paid hours for STS events, meetings, and professional development trainings.
  • Supervised by STS Director of Programs
