Responsibilities

The job plans and executes engineering activities to establish operating data and conduct experimental tests for assigned functions or departments within the University. Designs, modifies, and tests electronic systems and equipment. Confers with management to determine engineering feasibility and cost effectiveness. Requires knowledge and experience in own discipline while acquiring higher-level knowledge and skills.

1) With a moderate level of guidance, researches, designs and evaluates a variety of mechanical processes and machinery., 2) Performs development activities including drawing board layout, interpretation and implementation of project specifications and documentation requirements., 3) Uses solid understanding of construction to install and repair new and existing electronic systems. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data and conduct experimental tests., 4) Conducts engineering studies and assigns work to technical staff. Builds knowledge of the organization, processes and customers. Plans own resources effectively to ensure projects are delivered on time, to standard and to budget., 5) Performs other related work as needed.

Unit-specific Responsibilities

1) Performs strong programming techniques for improving databases, and software on clinical process and cancer treatment.

2) Work with clinical and physics staff in requirements definition sessions to gain perspective on the objective(s) or problems to be addressed by the radiation oncology department.

3) Works with the lead medical physicists and radiation oncologists to gain an understanding of functional requirements.

4) Develop implementable technical designs. Research and recommend alternative design solutions where appropriate.

5) Analyzes requirements, design, write code and develop a prototype, and work with the radiation oncology end-users to fine-tune solutions.

6) Make improvements to improve usability, based on end-user feedback.

7) Supports production systems by helping resolve problems, providing timely follow-up on problem reports, optimizing performance and streamlining processes.

8) Assisting medical physics with all computer programming including imaging equipment procedures.

9) Performs other duties as assigned.

Unit-preferred Competencies

1) Knowledge of computer programming and scripting language in Java, Python and Matlab.

2) Highly effective analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.

3) Strong project management and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.

4) Ability to effectively multi-task under deadlines, handle multiple projects concurrently, and ask questions as necessary. 

5) Exceptional communication and engagement skills.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education

1) Master or Ph.D. degree in computer science, computational Biology, Data Science, Physics, Medical Physics or related field.

Experience

1) Knowledge and skills developed through 2 years of work experience in a related job setting.

2) Experiences in image analysis, pattern recognition, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep learning, SQL database, hidden markup model, and statistical packages are desirable.

3) Knowledge and skill of Machine Learning, Deep Learning, SQL database, hidden markup, and statistical packages.
